EBBC 26 provided some UNREAL solo performances throughout the contest , but the calibre on Saturday’s own choice was simply, incredible! Especially in the field of wind ensembles, Jan Van der Roost has gained worldwide recognition. His music for symphonic wind band, fanfare band, and brass band is performed in every corner of the globe. The Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides has a strong tradition of celebrating and supporting Belgian composers and their work. On June 26, Ivan Meylemans will conduct a very special program in honour of Jan Van der Roost in the great concert hall of LUCA School of Arts in Leuven. No fewer than three top Belgian soloists will perform music by Van der Roost: Tim De Maeseneer (tenor horn), Anneke Luyten (soprano), and Bram Nolf (oboe). You won’t want to miss this! What a pleasure to be part of Grimethorpe Colliery Band’s iconic horn section with Steve Peacock, Jim Fletcher and Andy Holmes last weekend. Thank you Andy Kennedy for your kind organisation and offcourse also to Ben Dixon for inviting me to play with the band. Looking back on last week’s performance with Paris Brassband. It was an immense pleasure to conduct this group of super talented musicians at the national competition. We were honoured to win the Percussion Prize thanks to our wonderful percussion section. Unfortunately, by just 0.5 points, we had to let @Hauts -de-France Brass Band and maestro Luc Vertommen take the top spot. Respect! Bravo to all competing bands, Brassband Des Gones and Brassband Aeolus. It was great meeting so many new musical friends in France. Last but not least, thank you Benjamin Markl for your help during the final week of our preparation. It was amazing working together, as always.
