Tomorrow, May 16th, is the International Day of Light! At Timberlab, we see lighting as a unique opportunity for ‘Sustainable Beautification’. It’s not just about visibility; it’s about choosing a natural enhancement for different landscapes.
Our fixtures do more than just light up a path; they provide an aesthetic enhancement that complements the landscape, serving as a prime example of responsible design with a lasting sustainable impact. With smart technologies like our Adark® system, we ensure there is 'light when needed, and darkness when possible,' protecting the nocturnal ecosystem and saving energy. Together, let’s motivate each other to choose designs that are both beautiful and better for our planet.

May marks the peak of growth in the natural world, the very season when nature’s most sustainable strength is at its finest. While trees are in full bloom and reaching their most fertile state, we work in our factory with the result of that vibrant process: wood.
Every wooden post we produce acts as long-term storage for CO2. It’s a beautiful cycle; while the environment around our fixtures turns vibrant green this month, the wood itself begins its own natural transformation. Through exposure to sun and rain, it develops a silver layer. This ensures our lighting doesn't just stand in nature but truly becomes part of it.
How do you integrate sustainable materials into your outdoor designs? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
This project for Domaine Evremond was realised and photographed by our UK partner, Hornbeck.

A few weeks ago, we were at LEDucation in New York to showcase our wooden lighting solutions. In collaboration with our partner @litesonwest , we hosted a booth to demonstrate how our natural products can be seamlessly integrated with advanced LED technology, even in a dense urban environment.
The exchange of ideas with international lighting professionals confirms the growing interest in biobased materials in North America. We’ve brought new insights back to our factory, where they continue to inform our product development.
Are you working on an international project? We’d be glad to explore possibilities together!

Elements Hotel is nestled between the dunes and the sea on the island of Terschelling. The interior design blends indoor and outdoor spaces together seamlessly. To reinforce this connection, wooden outdoor lighting was chosen: specifically Timberlab’s EYE fixtures. These lighting elements illuminate the path from the hotel to the outdoors, literally linking the inside and outside spaces.

As you know, at Timberlab, we believe in the pure power of nature. That’s why all our timber is untreated – allowing it to age naturally, require no maintenance, and embody true sustainability.
We often get the question ‘what will the wood look like once it’s fully silvered?’ To answer that clearly, we’re documenting more of our long-term projects, showing the beauty of natural ageing.
Today we show you: douglas. Our European timber that silvers within three years of placement. We only supply Douglas on postholders, to prolong the durability of the timber.
Want to see our silvered products in action? On our website you can find all our realised projects!

Den Eikenboom in Loenen has been a meetingplace since 1803. At the time it served as an inn located at the intersection of several trade routes. In recent years the building underwent a complete restoration. At the end of 2024 @deneikenboom reopened it’s doors.
Together with lighting designer Haskoning, the choice was made for custom BOSCOs, GIROs, and charging stations, all crafted from robinia wood. This robust roundwood retains the tree’s natural structure, giving the lighting an extra organic appearance that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.
Wilko van der Kamp from installation company Leertouwer says ‘It was great to work with Timberlab, and we enjoyed installing these exclusive products’.

This project for Bromley High School, Kent, features a custom installation of our @accoyawood PUNTO bollards. To fit beneath the handrail, these bollards were installed extra low. In addition to their low installation depth, they are equipped with our streetlight LED module for more light.

At our Light + Building stand, visitors had a unique opportunity to experience Adark firsthand. Together with our instructional video, they could see up close how Adark® lights and dims. With Adark®, outdoor spaces are only lit when needed and keep it dark when they can be.
