One Deck Wednesday is back at @madsquirrelhertford next Wednesday, 1st May, 7pm-10pm. We invite DJs and record collectors to share some of their favourite tracks on vinyl. Come down for an evening of sounds from across the musical universe. This month we have 2 amazing guests: ED FREED has had 40 years of digging everywhere from the American Midwest to Tokyo which has resulted in a record bag that’s basically a musical passport. A 90s veteran who has “retired” more times than he can count, he finally called it quits when the requests for hardcore UK Garage got out of hand. He’s back now for one reason only: to play the good stuff. Expect a deep-dive through Jazz, Hip-Hop, Library rarities, Brazilian beats, and classic Soul. No bells, no whistles, and absolutely no garage just four decades of world-class vibes. We also welcome LUKE THE DUKE who has been playing and collecting records since before he can remember. He cut his teeth on pirate radio through then 90s & has played at scooter rallies across the country. Expect a journey through the years encompassing Funk, Reggae, Rock, Roll & Soul.

THIS SATURDAY 2nd May sees the start of a new FREE monthly day party at @theblackbirds.hertford . DJs will be brewing the best in Funk, Soul, Disco, House and beyond 🫖 2pm - 8pm - Home for Tea. First Saturday of every month. DJs include @danthedrum , @songsofpraise20 (@secretgarden.the & @marts39 ), @joncurt15 , @tim_fielding , @neilbrogan_ , @rhodesy2bm and more

Guest selectors are invited to deep-dive into their record collections, spinning sounds from across the musical universe. This month we’re honoured to have @soph_heath from DJ duo @nobleandheath as a guest. Spinning the very best in Soul, Funk, Jazz, Boogie, Gospel & Disco, the pair host a radio show on Soho Radio and are regularly seen guesting at some of London’s best underground Soul and Disco nights including the legendary Faith parties. They have graced the decks at KOKO, XOYO, The Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scotts and The Jazz Cafe; as well as festivals such as Glastonbury, Field Day, Brixton Disco Festival, Cross The Tracks and The Soundcrash Funk & Soul Weekender. They have played alongside the likes of Norman Jay MBE, Nightmares On Wax, Dimitri From Paris, Craig Charles, Greg Wilson & Jazzy B OBE and have warmed up for legendary acts such as Jocelyn Brown, Lee Fields, Brenda Holloway, Ann Sexton and more. One Deck Wednesday is hosted by vinyl obsessive @tim_fielding whose record collection reaches all corners of the musical pyramid, with soul running through it’s heart. This is one not to be missed!

Dan has DJ’d alongside some of the biggest names in the business: Norman Jay MBE, Dave Lee, Craig Charles, Brandon Block, Ashley Beedle, Huey Morgan and Terry Farley to name but a few. He hosts a monthly show on Totally Wired Radio, playing tunes from his vast collection of Funk & Soul, Reggae, Ska, Rare Groove, Hip Hop and House. One Deck Wednesday is hosted by Tim Fielding who has been DJing and buying records since age 14, building up a collection from all corners of the musical pyramid.
