When you grew up in a certain era, your music taste as a DJ might pull tracks from that same time period. And also as a DJ playing a set, you can choose to pull from the top hits or from the deep corners of nostalgia to find fun ways to make memorable moments on the dance floor—unexpected moments that aren’t your usual nights out at the bar.
This track was a banger of a remix from an artist named Aaliyah that was lost to the world at a very young age in her career. Sometimes when we get to play these songs back in the present day, we can play tribute to some of the most amazing musicians and artists that the world may have forgotten.

Creating fun moments for the audience is a massive part of being a DJ—maybe even the most important part of it all 💡
You can learn all the technical tricks, have an amazing taste in music, plan all the craziest drops, but at the end of the day, if the audience isn’t enjoying their time on the dance floor.. Then are we really doing a good job up there?
I’m still learning a lot from every gig I get to play, but sometimes just kicking it back with some DJ homies and reacting to each other mixing music for fun can remind us time and time again just what it’s all really about 🙏

REVERB is a monthly DJ set series created to fill the gap between Calgary’s nightlife and party scene, bringing ravers and music lovers together for pure, uninhibited dance. Each event is curated by the DJs to explore themes around global electronic music genres, sounds and artists. This experience is for the community and for music. No requests. Just vibes.

I think there was one very prominent question that came up at every Christmas / holiday gathering I went to this year—friends and family alike.. and it was, “so, how’s the whole DJ thing going?” 👀
And tbh this year was one of the busiest and hardest years yet for me workload wise. Trying to find myself as an artist in this space has been both challenging and rewarding at the same time. On the one hand, reflecting on all the shows I’ve been able to play at, the people I’ve met along the way, and the music I’m starting to make has been just a tremendous amount of positive energy, progress and momentum. The support and love has been absolutely unreal ❤️🔥
However, on the other hand, starting something completely new and diving head first into the music industry has been VERY humbling—to build something from the ground up all over again. It’s like starting your first job after graduating from your undergrad and trying to prove to yourself and to others that you can do this. It’s like starting a relationship all over again and falling in love, building trust in something that you’re extremely passionate about and following your heart while being vulnerable to the process. It’s like moving to a new city and establishing new roots, relationships and a life where you know you have to put yourself out there and put the time in to make it work. And having to balance that feeling with an already established life and career, it ain’t easy.. But it’s worth doing. Because somewhere in my mind, with my own free will, I chose to do this. And that choice, my choice, to do this… is something that I don’t take lightly. It means a lot to me.
So.. how is the whole DJing thing going? I guess all I can really say from my end is that it’s going alright. And I’m enjoying this alright. And that I’m excited to see how this alright continues to grow. I hope that’s an alright answer 😎
So thank you to all those who have been here for the journey thus far. This has been nothing without you all and the community here in the city and beyond. Here’s a bit of an overdue happy new year dear friends!

Backstory—Just about two years ago, an amazing local tavern down the street gave us a chance to play some music as our first free public DJ gig here in downtown Calgary. From that first event, a lovely human being liked our sound enough and gave us a chance to play a few more gigs sponsoring what became our first ever paid DJ gig (our second live show). If you’ve been in the scene or are in the arts, you know fortunate these opportunities and connections are for all artists alike. It’s the chances we give, the moments we take, and the community we create that binds us together to truly build something special 👏🏻
We’ve been fortunate enough to start something.. for the music, the community and for the ones who got us here—and the many more faces we look forward to meeting. We’re creating a series of our own and we’re stoked to see what it can grow into.
Occuring on the second weekend of every month, this series not only gives ourselves, but other DJs in the community as well, the chance to grow Calgary’s EDM, dance music, and rave scene. Let’s continue to build this city and scene up 📈
