Moving through Zurich means navigating a layered urban landscape shaped by geography and daily routines. Unassuming buildings at key junctions become silent markers of memory and movement. Many of these structures, built between the 1990s and 2010s, now face early demolition. Their vulnerability raises pressing questions about what we choose to preserve, how we adapt outdated innovations, and what sustainability means in contemporary architecture. How do we value the everyday? MInDS 2025 / Milano International Design Studio SAMPLE BREAKDOWN – WORKBOOK From the very beginning and throughout the entire two-week workshop, we aimed to accurately document each step of the process, systematically collecting material through scanning, photographing, tracing, and recording. The entire workshop team compiled this material into a workbook, creating a chronological record of the workshop. This includes process documentation, key milestones at the end of each week, studio and site visits, input lectures, conversations, and texts. Workshop Group: Agnese Angelucci, Camilla Armaroli, Bianca Balzarini, Salvatore Calabrò, Davide Fabbro, Tommaso Falcade, Matteo Giannini, Astrit Haliti, Alessandra Introini, Oscar Vincent Friedrich Mehlitz, Andela Panic, Matilde Serri Pini, Camilla Testa, Sara Urli, Matteo Vicentini. SAMPLE BREAKDOWN – WEEK 2 In the second week of the MInDS 2025 workshop at Politecnico di Milano, we further explored sampling as a reuse technique, translating our initial findings into tangible material tests. Through stress tests, surface alterations, and iterative trial and error, we developed a diverse catalog of process-based experiments, documenting the workshop’s progress in real time. Applying these tests to the site at Spazio Maiocchi allowed us to immediately contextualize our research and translate theoretical insights into practice. Alongside these material explorations, the entire workshop team compiled their work into a comprehensive workbook, creating a chronological record of the process. The workshop’s outcomes were presented in a final exhibition, on display from February 14 to 21 in the Atrio – Building 11, Via Ampère 2. Our exchange with local practices in Milan continued with a visit to antique furniture restorer Lars Stamm, who demonstrated restoration techniques that bridge small-scale craftsmanship and large-scale applications. Additionally, we visited the studio and workshop of the clothing label/hybrid collective GR10K, with Anna Grassi and Andrea Slaviero providing an in-depth insight into their approach to material appropriation and the use of workwear uniform-, and garment-deadstock. Further inputs were provided again by Valentina Noce (PoliMi PhD candidate and director of the architecture and landscape office sabotage practice) Workshop Group: Agnese Angelucci, Camilla Armaroli, Bianca Balzarini, Salvatore Calabrò, Davide Fabbro, Tommaso Falcade, Matteo Giannini, Astrit Haliti, Alessandra Introini, Oscar Vincent Friedrich Mehlitz, Andela Panic, Matilde Serri Pini, Camilla Testa, Sara Urli, Matteo Vicentini.
