The Rock Hill HS Throwers had our 2026 Thrower Highland Games on April Fool’s Day, but it was no joke! They competed in stone put and Scottish hammer, before concluding with a 4X100. We even broke out a 23 lb Braemar Stone and had some fun with that too. As usual, it was close and came down to the run. Congrats to the winning family and to all for a great competition in beautiful weather. YoCo Throwers Club members had another good showing on a beautiful day at the Trojan Relays yesterday. They went 1, 3, 5 in boys discus; 3, 8, 12 in girls discus; 3, 10 in boys shot; 1, 7 in girls shot; and 9, 10 in girls javelin. Special shout-outs to @aidangraham897 who broke his own meet record from last year to win discus (53.93); @levviwarrd who set a new York Comprehensive HS school record in discus (47.11) taking third; and @anna.ask_18 who set a new PR in shot to win (10.95). In addition to high school implements, @aidangraham897 got in some college prep work with the 2K disc and 35 lb weight; @irene_throws kept working on weight for indoor meets; @leah_fricke made progress on disc & jav; @levviwarrd worked shot & disc; @drew.miller50 shot; @m_stinson10 discus; @chelseabuchkothrows worked shot; and Anna Sizemore worked disc. YoCo Thrower Club member Aidan Graham and I had the privilege of training in Madison, WI with Coach Joe Frontier and his outstanding partner coaches of the TBTF family of clubs. The quality of coaching was top-notch, as was the training group. Good times! I also took an evening to walk down State Street to see the beautiful waterfront at the UW campus and the majestic Wisconsin capitol. If you are ever thinking about visiting Madison, do it! I had an outstanding time representing the Anchorage Police Department (AK) and USA while competing at the 2025 World Police and Fire Games in Birmingham, Alabama. These were my first WPFG, and it was a great experience! The games and associated track meet were very well run, and we made some great new friends. It was especially an honor sharing the podium in M60-64 javelin, discus and shot put with Rick Eastham (KY), Tim Edwards (AZ) and Curt Rossi (CA). A highlight of the Rock Hill HS throwing season is our world famous Thrower Highland Games! In March, our squad split into “Family MacGarnet” and “Family MacBlack” (school colors) to compete in the stone put, Scottish hammer throw, slam ball for height, and 4x100 thrower relay. This year, MacGarnet won by just over one point; excellent competition! Any throws coach who wants to learn more about this fun activity, feel free to DM me.
