Happy Birthday 3tynespodcast! Woooo! We are 2! (Well, we are on Thursday.) Which is why today’s episode is one with a difference: the darkest secrets, the magic, the hidden depths... etc are revealed as I answer important questions put to me about the podcast - like, ‘Does it help to have cameo appearances by a cat?’ And, if you’re wondering why me and Kate are taking selfies by road signs for Ulgham and Haugh of Urr, this is clearly the episode for you.

Good to meet @graycolm of @the.quiet.fire.band playing at Mr Ant’s Bar Hexham last night. Colm will feature in an upcoming episode about Mr Ant’s, in which I talk to proprietors Richard and Eileen about the realities of putting on music for the hospitality industry.

Recent guest @andyjamesfraser visited 3tynespodcast HQ to talk about his new album, White Feather - eleven finely crafted songs and stories about the North East in a finely crafted CD package. This bonus episode features three of those songs. We had so much to say, we carried on talking at the excellent @the_garden_hexham and paid a visit to Ben at @thevaulthexham . The album is out on June 1st - check out Andy’s socials for more.

Wylam-based singer-songwriter @tearitalldown Gareth Davies-Jones is touring his new album A Troubadour’s Journey, inspired by a walk from Holy Island to Durham Cathedral, singing to the communities where he stayed. Fingers crossed, Gareth will record an episode for the podcast on his way through Tynedale - you can catch him in Stocksfield on June 13th.

The Earth spins, the sun rises and sets, tides ebb and flow, and so the unstoppable power of time carries 3tynespodcast ever closer to its second birthday. What does it all mean? Why do we do? Why are we here? These and other questions you write in Messenger or DMs will be answered in the birthday episode next week.

A quickie on a Tuesday! A short bonus episode about Bandcamp, the platform that supports grass roots musicians by passing on over 80% of the money you pay for their music. Buy online, stream on the app and know that you - yes, you! - are helping the musicians whose music you love.

Rupert Hughes, songwriter, singer and guitarist with @theoftenherd was a welcome guest at podcast HQ today. We talked bluegrass and how it came to a North East lad playing punk ‘n pop, teaching guitar, the band, that IBMA award and the thought of going to Nashville and Kentucky - hear it all here in the ether, one day soon in summer.

I am delighted to announce that Three Tynes has received a grant from the Catherine Cookson Charitable Trust! There are ten songs in the Three Tynes audiovisual project. The Trust’s grant will help us achieve professional standard recordings and is a welcome vote of confidence in the project that will inspire confidence for match funding.

Today’s 3tynespodcast guest is @andrew_cadie_music , singer of soul folk on his new album Flooding the Ocean, multi-instrumentalist and producer. Andrew stopped by podcast HQ during the Three Tynes leg of his recent UK tour to talk about his career from the folk clubs of the North East via County Durham to his current home in Germany. We had a lovely time chatting and Andrew recorded two songs from the album specially for the podcast. Tea, slippers, comfy chair - go!

Did you know that 90% of podcasts don’t produce more than 20 episodes and the average lifespan is 6 months? Me neither, but AI says so therefore IT IS TRUE. So wow 3tynespodcast! 80 episodes, 2 years old in May and not looking a day over... er, 2. There will be a special episode on May 12th in which I will reveal the secrets you seek. Pop a question in Messenger or DM me, or even stick it in a comment below.

3tynespodcast is almost 2 years old!, Yes, it is now old enough to walk the walk AND talk the talk without falling over. It all began before the crack of dawn at Steel Rigg, with the generous support of Brian Bell and Hexham Morris as they welcomed the summer on May 1st. To celebrate, there will be a bonus episode in May looking back over the 80+ episodes now online plus a first ever Q&A. Write a question about anything podcast-related in the comments below and I will do my best to give you a sensible answer. Meanwhile - stay tuned!
