‼️ Open Call for Designers & Craftspeople! ‼️
As part of Re-Imagined Resources, selected designers and craftspeople will visit a textile sorting facility in their home country, getting hands-on access to end-of-life textiles and the chance to see the full scale of what gets discarded every day.
Using these materials as a starting point, participants will develop their own design response - whether that's a product, a system or something entirely unexpected.
If you're a creative practitioner based in FI/SE/NO/IS/IE, this is your opportunity to reimagine solutions with existing materials and to connect, collaborate and create with an international community that takes circular design seriously.

We are pleased to invite you to an upcoming webinar organised as part of the Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme (NPA) THREADs project, exploring how textile waste can be used as a valuable resource for design, reuse and circular textile systems in the Northern Periphery and Arctic region. 🧶
‼️ The webinar will introduce a Resource Categorisation Value Chart, developed within the THREADs project. The tool helps identify how textiles can be directed towards reuse, redesign, repair or other circular pathways, enabling better collaboration between sorting systems and creative reuse practices.

THREADs Project: Face-to-Face in Oslo, Norway 🇳🇴
In December 2025, the THREADS team met face-to-face in Norway, for the first time in a long time!
✅ Day 1: Focused mini-sessions for each work package to dive into progress, milestones, and challenges. ✅ Day 2: A joint workshop where partners shared insights and connected the dots across the project.
We also explored Norway’s textile collection, sorting, and recycling practices—learning how local models and innovative approaches can inspire more efficient and sustainable systems.
Face-to-face meetings aren’t always easy in international projects, but they’re invaluable. Collaboration is the key to a sustainable future, and we’re grateful for the chance to meet, learn, and grow together!

During the schools’ autumn break, Science Park Borås at the University of Borås invited craft teachers Malin Byström from Höglunda's school in Sundsvall and Anna Franzén from Sandared's school in Borås for a conversation on textile craft, reuse, and the practical challenges of finding sustainable materials for teaching.
Although circular thinking is part of the Swedish curriculum, the teachers described how difficult it is to access reused textiles within current procurement systems.
"Most of the reuse that happens in schools today relies entirely on our own initiatives and contacts. We beg for materials from laundries, companies and parents, there’s no real structure for it", said Malin Byström.

Last year, THREADs brought sneaker care to the spotlight at Visit KAMK, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences’ flagship event connecting students, businesses, and innovators — with over 1,000 participants from across Finland! This year, we looked ahead. Instead of a workshop, we launched a survey for youth visiting the event, diving into the future of clothing and apparel consumption. 💬👕
The survey consisted of 11 different questions revolving around clothes and apparel consumption. We asked questions like where, when and how do young people buy clothing - do they buy second-hand or prefer to buy new, what do they do with their end-of-life textiles and what do they wish the City of Kajaani did better regarding the topic? Would they like clothes swapping events? More second hand stores?
🎯 197 responses later, we’re drafting the results into a report — and trust us, it’s full of insights! Stay tuned 👀

One of the THREADs partners, the Municipality of Kittilä, arranged an Environment Week from 19 May to 23 May! During the week the local residents worked together to clean up their shared environments - small events and information sharing were organised at the Recycling Centre during the week, too.
THREADs was present to distribute information on sorting of discarded textiles. The weather for the event week decided to not be the most favorable - but they still managed, and people bravely gathered together to clean up and have fun!

THREADs took part in the annual Hulinapäivät Event of our partner, the Entrinki Recycling Centre, on 9 May 2025! Our project expert Mari was there to present the project, and to organise a customer survey on textile consumption habits.
The respondents were regular customers of the recycling centre, and the discussions with them raised concerns about e.g., the loss of handicraft tradition and the single-use trend of most textiles. In addition, unfortunately, to many people it is still unclear how to discard their end-of-life textiles - so clearly THREADs is needed! Textile recycling practices remain an issue that needs to be widely publicised.

Sunny and inspiring days in Luleå, Sweden - check! THREADs partners from Finland, Sweden and Norway made a trip to Luleå, where our partner Lumire, Luleå Miljöresurs AB took us around the town to show us around their corners of the world. The enlightening trip consisted of e.g., a visit to one of the city's recycling centers Risslan, the second hand shop Samlat and Slöjd- och formcenter Norrbotten - and was crowned with an annual clothes-swapping event at the Vetenskapens Hus on Saturday 26th April!
We'll be eternally grateful for this enlightening trip - thank you again!
