This is a home. On that day, it became another thing involving art and people. Many of the best art spaces have been multifunctional. Much of the best art has been non-functional. We hoped you found this event somewhat dysfunctional.
David Thorp created a multi-timbral sound installation incorporating the banjo and William S. Burroughs. Janette Parris presented a song as a medium to investigate the changing high street, performed by two singers, while Emily Rosamond offered a participatory performance that took the form of a live choreography and movement class. Paula Smolarska contributed a sculptural perspective through a series of cast letters in a ‘cold case’ space, and Adele Lazzeri presented a sculpture/painting installation that refracted poetry through UV rays. Meanwhile, Toby Tobias Kidd laid out a sequence of engraved poems underfoot, developed through a ritualistic daily practice in the lead-up to the show, offering glimpses of life beyond the fence.
The Pragmata Collective is an experimental micro-institution of artists Adele Lazzeri and Toby Tobias Kidd, staging art events and interventions that experimented with form and process.
Some rather poor photos from a really great event last night. Pragmata Summer Show: Words of Silence. Delighted to be a part of it with Janette Pariss, Emily Rosamond, Paula Smolarska and Pragmata Collective ( Adele Lazzeri and Toby Tobias Kidd)
Emily’s clever and witty participatory performance.
Janette Pariss uplifting vocals with Toby accompanying but out of shot.
Emily and Paula with Adele Lazzeri’s refraction of poetry through UV rays behind.
Robin Klassnik listening closely to my sound piece Thanksgiving’.
I went to see Derek Ogbourne in his studio today where he is continuing with his marathon painting project. Many wonderful things to look at. He gave me this beautiful little watercolor, one of a series he’s recently completed. Thanks Derek!
