Thank you to @story_muse and @atlcyclingfest for including me in "Spoke & Word," a lovely cycling progressive of stories rode and told around southwest Atlanta, culminating at @boggssocial . Wonderful stories, all! Let's do it again.

I spent today with my Filthy Friends, @karasquara and @rynoklee , in the mountains, fern fields, and rivers of beautiful #BlueRidgeGA doing the 8-hour Blue Ridge Adventure Race, run by @warriorraces . We mountain biked, trekked, and canoed our way through a gorgeous day of adventure. Thank you to all who made this possible!

"Of Mountain Laurels and Magic Lakes..." My latest Habits of Heart essay, with thanks to @karasquara for stopping us on our trail run to appreciate the splendor and to @rynoklee for leading us onto the lake. We're training for our next @warriorraces adventure race, but we're always going to stop to take in the awe and wonder of nature along the way. Link in bio. #adventureracing #Trailrunning #kayaking

TL;DR: Thank you to ALLLLLL the magnificent people who helped make Saturday's debut of my new keynote, "The Tempest, the Train Porter, and the Temple of Trees, " both a big success and an abundant delight of a day. Thank you to @shannonmturner of @story_muse for bringing the Teapot to this Tempest, with your wise and wonderful stories of love, camp, and chickens. Thank you to @thesupermarket.atl (and especially Jane) for hosting us so well in one of Atlanta's coolest event venues and gallery spaces. Thank you to Lindsey Duvall of The Golden Solution for orchestrating this whole event so magnificently, allowing me to focus on my talk and my guests while you kept everything running smoothly. Thank you to @seecarelock , both my self-appointed stylist (b/c we all know I needed one) and the event stage manager. Thank you to MC @hollystevenson777 , the hostess with the mostess and also my rehearsal coach through many, many hours of walks in the park. Thank you to Brent Dey for making a multi-camera record of the event and capturing audience reactions afterward. Thank you to @vandellous of the @vibrancecentre , who coached me on voice and presentation these past three months and helped me commit to my own poetic aesthetic when I was feeling the pressure to make things more prosaic. Thank you to Julie Fogh and Casey Erin Clark of Vital Voice, who helped me find my vital speaking voice and believe I had a voice worth being heard. And thank you to all of YOU who came out to share the day with me. I'm blessed beyond measure to have you all in my life. Let's do it again soon, yeah?

This week we’re revisiting a “Habits of Heart” essay that I first sent out in the fall of 2024, before relaunching my newsletter on Substack, so if you’ve been following "Habits of Heart" since the beginning, this one may be familiar. It’s a series of related stories about my grandpa, an entrepreneur and engineer who taught me so much of what I know about wholehearted critical thinking. (p.s. That's me in the overalls, with my cousin Johnny beside me, as Grandpa reads to us.) Link to the newsletter in bio.

In today’s Habits of Heart newsletter, I tell a story about crabbing along the Jersey Shore, and what a group of bullies taught me about the courage of compassion. Content warning: Cruelty to animals. Link to Habits of Heart in bio. #compassion
