Thomas Machowicz (@thomasmachowicz@sanctuary_doc ) is at Ridglan Farms, a facility that breeds dogs for research, where hundreds of activists are trying to reach the fence to get inside the facility to rescue the dogs. Police and private security are using tear gas and pepper spray to deter activists.

Orikhiv, a city of ghostly anti-drone nets in the Zaporizhzhia Region of Ukraine. Eleven kilometers from the front, this city had a pre-invasion population of almost 14,000 people.
When I visited with @charsten_deor and members of the @4_ovmbr tank brigade the streets were empty except for a couple men repairing nets, an occasional car, a scooter, and this man with his dogs and wheelbarrow in tow.
Birds hung dead in the drone nets as if still in flight, and the city was silent except for the regular rumble of artillery fire in the surrounding area.
I hope to give you a look at Orikhiv over the next few posts, which has sadly had a similar fate to many eastern Ukrainian towns.

15 Mart’ta yaklaşık 100 aktivist Ridglan’dan çok sayıda beagle’ı çıkarmayı başarmıştı.
Hayvan foto muhabirleri Thomas Machowicz ve Diana Hulet Sanctuary Doc* adına, 18 Nisan’da gerçekleşen Wisconsin’deki Ridgeland Farms’ta bulunan ve deneyler için yetiştirilen yaklaşık 2 bin beagle cinsi köpeğin kurtarılmasını hedefleyen eylemi yerinde takip etti.
Thomas, sahada tanık olduğu polis saldırısını, eylemin seyrini ve geride bıraktığı duyguyu sorularımıza verdiği yanıtlarla bizimle paylaştı.

This is the scene the @sanctuary_doc team encountered when they first arrived to document the Ridglan Farms dog rescue on Saturday, April 18th.
Activists attempt to overcome hay bails used as obstacles in an effort to clear a path to enter the farm and are pushed back by tear gas from law enforcement.
Hundreds of activists arrived on site, attempting an open rescue of 2,000 beagles used and sold for experimentation.
Today, April 18 2026, hundreds of concerned individuals attempted to rescue beagles from Ridglan Farms, a facility that breeds dogs for research. The beagles at Ridglan have been subjected to cruel conditions in violation of Wisconsin’s anti-cruelty statutes and standard veterinary practices.
Rescuers were met with tear gassing, macing to the eyes and physical violence.
@thomasmachowicz of @sanctuary_doc interviewed Victoria, one of the team leaders, who explained what transpired.
Monday morning feels 🥱
A rescue pig yawns, still heavy with sleep, @hof_narr_in , a vegan sanctuary in Hinteregg, Switzerland. Founded by Sarah Heiligtag, the farm is part of a growing “Transfarmation” movement reimagining animal agriculture as plant-based, nonviolent systems of care. To date, more than 80 farms have begun the transition away from animal farming.

“He drove through Orikhiv in Zaporizia, a contested town veiled in fishing nets — long, translucent sheets of it that hung over the streets to confuse FPV drones.
The sunlight caught on them like water, and the wind made them move like ghosts.
He had been told to wear full armor inside the town, to keep his helmet on, but then he saw a man walking shirtless down the street, carrying a plastic bag, unhurried and alone.
That contrast — his armor, the nets, the man’s bare chest glowing under the sun — summed up the strange balance of this place: constant danger and stubborn life coexisting as if nothing had ever been out of place.”
