Edona & I met a month ago when she messaged me on Instagram about a comment I had made on a tiktok video about being deaf with Cochlear implants. Her daughter is deaf and was born to hearing parents. When my parents found out I was deaf, social media wasn’t a thing and the internet barely existed. They didn’t have anyone except doctors to talk to, they didn’t know of anyone with cochlear implants to ask about what it feels like, sounds like, and all of the million other questions they had. I’ve made it my goal to meet and talk to hearing parents of deaf children; to reassure them and show them that their child can be independent and successful. Meeting Edona was the first of hopefully many more parents who I can encourage to be hopeful about their child’s future. I can’t wait to see all that her baby girl becomes and accomplishes. 🩷🤟🏼🦻🏼
