Join us tonight for the opening of Pause, Chris Middlebrook’s vast documentation of Melbourne Skateboarding at Hillvale Gallery from 6-9 pm. It was a pleasure to see multiple video formats from the ‘90s and beyond turned into prints. Not sure when we’ll get to do that again. The book and accompanying print and moving-image exhibition have been a 3-year project to encapsulate 35 years of work. Join us tonight at the opening of @conor__obrien first exhibition in 13 years, ‘The Lost Light’ at @hillvalegallery from 6-8 pm. ‘The Lost Light’ showcases Conor’s new body of photographic work and the release of their new publication. Conor’s exhibition continues until the 6th of April, 2025. Hillvale Gallery is open from Mon – Fri, 11 am – 3 pm & Sun, 11 am – 3 pm. In November last year, we started talking with @brihammond about printing her bright, colourful still-life photographic exhibition ‘Object Permanence’. Bri lives in Adelaide, so consulting was done via correspondence. After learning about the ideas behind Bri’s work, seeing her photographs and considering how Bri wanted to frame them, we ran off some test prints on different papers and chatted more. In the end, Bri gravitated towards the smooth, detailed tones of Canson Rag Photographique 310gsm. Even on a beautifully wide gamut paper like Canson Rag Photographique 310gsm, some colours still sat out of the gamut. Bri had done a fantastic job managing the colours in her files. On our end, considerations and different approaches were made from image to image to maximise each work’s printed tonality and vibrancy. Also, in the show is a large low tac adhesive print 216x216cm (two strips 108cm wide). The detail Bri put into this is quite mesmerising; it’s a see-to-believe-it moment. Her flattened file is just under 6GB... While this media isn’t something you know us for, it’s always something we’re happy to help with to complement a project. Bri’s exhibition ‘Object Permanence’ is currently showing at @themilladelaide in Adelaide until the 28th of March, Monday-Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. This Friday, 7th of March, from 12 pm - 1 pm, Bri is hosting an artist talk - if you’re in Adelaide or know someone lives there, Bri’s artist talk will be a beautiful event to attend (we’re sad to miss it!).

If you want something to do in Brunswick tonight, Tom Hvala’s one-night exhibition ‘Patagonia, in Texture and Terrain’ will be open from 6 pm to 10 pm at @tender_place_ . We worked with @thomasjpg to turn his black-and-white images into intimate 15x15 cm prints with hand-torn edges. Printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm using our Epson SureColor P20070 these prints have a soft touch to a harsh landscape. Tom kindly shared the photos he took with us of his prints getting framed by @holbrookworkshop

Over our summer holiday, we teamed up with @hillvalephoto to renovate the mezzanine where the Hillvale headquarters & Thirds studio is located.  Together, we built a fully sealed & insulated room for dust control, gave everything a fresh coat of paint (Tim finally got one grey wall for editing, Vanessa didn’t get a pink one) and the cherry on top - air conditioning & heating is installed. So, we no longer need to close early on super hot days, like today 👏 The new space looks super cute. While we still need to do some re-organizing, we couldn’t be happier with the results. Team Hillvale & Thirds for the win 🩷 A big thank you to everyone who helped out & made this happen.
