My songs are emotional reactions to the times I am in. Mostly, they are driven by the subconscious—a dream of the times, if you will. In these days I am concerned with impermanence, legacy, death and what lives on. I wonder where we go when the very idea of empathy is under threat. This is my retort. But it doesn’t matter what I think. What matters is what happens to you when you listen. I hope this song inhabits you with a feeling that feeds you.

We completed this album right before our record label dissolved. It also coincided with the end of what had been a decade long all out sprint chasing after music ahead of everything else. It never got promoted and yet you all made every song on it essential. It’s our only break up album and it’s in many ways my favorite album. Boy was I unhappy when I wrote it. It’s quite a thing that it makes me happy to listen to now. Out of the Vein turns 23 this week.
