Our first Food Waste Reduction & Compost 101 training will be held on April 7. Join us and guest speaker Gotham Food Pantry for a deep dive into how to reduce food waste. We’ll be sharing the number of ways to reduce the amount of food that goes to landfill or incineration, including through prevention, by donating, composting, and more. Single-use beverage containers make up 18% of all U.S. packaging, yet recycling rates remain stagnant at around 24%, prompting states to explore policies like Extended Producer Responsibility and Deposit Return Systems (Bottle Bills) to boost recycling and support a shift to reuse. This session explores how to design these policies for long-term success, with insights on ensuring deposit systems accommodate both recyclables AND reusable containers, findings from a California feasibility study on reuse integration, and strategies for embedding infrastructure and land use policies that support reuse into urban planning.

Our team is looking for bin stewards to join us during Earth Month. Reach out if you’re interested in proactively engaging with the public to help them correctly sort their lunch waste into the right bins. Bin stewards will teach people what goes in each bin and answer questions about composting and recycling in general. We’re looking for people who are outgoing and friendly and not afraid to talk to anyone and everyone passing by!
