Wishing @davidattenborough a very happy 100th birthday! Thank you for being the icon that you are. For inspiring us, educating us, and showing us the way forward. “The truth is: the natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water and air. It is the most precious thing we have and we need to defend it.” ― Sir David Attenborough 📸John Sparks #DavidAttenborough100 #Attenborough100 #SirDavidAttenborough #PlanetEarth #VoiceForNature #WildlifeConservation #ProtectNature #ThinGreenLine #Rangers #100YearsOfInspiration

On 5th March, heavily armed insurgents stormed the headquarters of Upemba National Park in Democratic Republic of Congo. Seven rangers and park staff lost their lives. Critical equipment and infrastructure were looted or destroyed. Despite the danger, and being heavily outnumbered, rangers defended the park and helped ensure the safety of civilians. Their bravery cannot be overstated. The victims ranged in age from 28 to 73. We are heartbroken, but - with your help - we are ready to stand with Upemba. Please consider donating to our Emergency Appeal today so that we can commit all possible help in response to this tragedy, and to the many emergencies rangers face every day. 🦍Today, on International Women's Day, we honour the incredible legacy of the 'Trimates' - Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Birutė Galdikas - the fearless women who reshaped our understanding of our closest relatives and the natural world. With courage, curiosity, and unwavering dedication, they ventured into forests, mountains, and jungles to study chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans, transforming primatology and inspiring millions of women and girls to blaze their own trail in science and conservation. 🦧 Their work reminds us that protecting wildlife isn't just a job - it's a mission fuelled by passion, empathy, and the recognition that we share this planet with other sentient beings. Today, we celebrate women everywhere who champion the rights of animals and care deeply about our shared future. 🌍💚 📷Clockwise from top: Hugo van Lawick, Rod Brindamour, Robert Campbell. #InternationalWomensDay #TheTrimates #JaneGoodall #DianFossey #BiruteGaldikas #WildlifeConservation #ThinGreenLine #Trailblazers #NatureHeroes

The voices of rangers on the frontline of conservation are not heard as widely as they deserve to be. Ranger Alain Mukiranya works in Maiko National Park, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), protecting endangered species including Grauer's gorillas, okapis and forest elephants. We're sharing a post by Alain as he reflects on the team's challenges of working in remote locations and the ever-present feelings of isolation, from the headquarters team and from families. "Serving without news: How far can we hold on?" "Several days in the field, far from our families, sometimes with no contact with HQ at all. The silence weighs heavy, and so does the uncertainty. There were moments when I found myself wondering whether we should keep going. And yet, we move forward, carried by the mission and by the team." "I remember one evening at the campsite when a colleague took photos of me without my knowing. I was physically there, but my thoughts were far away, focused on my loved ones who I missed deeply. That moment captures what isolation in the field truly feels like." "One of the biggest challenges was searching for a satellite signal. Finding the right spot, adjusting the equipment, waiting - sometimes for a long time - just to receive instructions from HQ or send a report. Every successful connection felt like a relief; every failed attempt reminded us how alone we really were out there." "When we return to base, the news comes all at once. Some colleagues discover the birth of a child that happened while they were away. Other moments are heavier, like those times when contact with teams operating in insecure areas was lost." "These experiences shape us. They remind us that serving also means standing strong in silence, accepting uncertainty, and continuing forward even when the link to the outside world disappears." Wishing you peace and harmony with our natural world this Christmas. 🌿 his time of year offers a moment to pause and reflect, and as a community we are looking back on a massive year. 2025 has been a challenging year for conservation, and we extend our sincere thanks to the rangers who continue to protect nature every day, often in difficult and dangerous conditions. We are also deeply grateful to the global community that stands with them — your support helps ensure rangers are safer, better equipped, and recognised for the vital role they play. As our team takes a well-needed moment of rest this week, we do so with gratitude and renewed commitment for the year ahead. Merry Christmas! Krismasi Njema! Joyeux Noël! Feliz Navidad! 🎄

After the recent passing of our cherished ambassador Dr Jane Goodall, we’re preparing for another significant transition - the impending departure of our founder, Sean Willmore. Sean’s vision, passion, and relentless advocacy for ranger welfare gave rise to Thin Green Line more than 20 years ago, and built it into the global family it is today. 🌍 Sean’s leaving is much more than a milestone; his legacy will continue to guide our mission. 🐘🦒🐦His spirit is woven into everything we do. 🌳🌳 We wish Sean all the very best for his onward journey. Please take a minute to listen to Sean’s farewell message. We’ll miss you, Sean! Enjoy the well-earned break. We’ve got this from here. #FounderMessage #standwithrangers #wildliferangers
