When you’re a retired police dog but still strong enough to outmuscle @tomhardy in a tug of war… Not all heroes wear capes – some wear collars! 💙 Thank you to @netflixuk for inviting us to London to showcase our work supporting serving and retired police dogs from across the United Kingdom. 🐶💙🚔🇬🇧

We spent the day with retired police dog Miki and the amazing team at Pennine Veterinary Referrals as he underwent cruciate ligament surgery, performed by the incredible Dr Tighearnán Mooney. Miki is expected to recover well, although he has a long road to recovery over the next eight weeks and will require additional hydrotherapy and physiotherapy to aid his recovery. After years of service, Miki isn’t afforded a pension in retirement, so it’s thanks to your incredible generosity in funding his surgery that he now has the best possible chance of making a full recovery. From all of us at the Foundation, thank you for standing beside retired police dogs like Miki when they need it most. After dedicating their lives to protecting others, they deserve the very best care in retirement, and because of your support, that’s exactly what Miki has received today. Get well soon Miki. 💙🇬🇧🚔🐶

We are thrilled to say that RPD Kenai’s surgery was a success. He has had his elbow pinned and is expected to make a full recovery. Thanks to your incredible generosity, over £11,000 has been raised to support Kenai and Miki, both of whom served with North Yorkshire Police. Miki’s surgery takes place tomorrow, and your support will also enable us to provide ongoing care through hydrotherapy and physiotherapy to help get them back on their paws. From the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of retired police dogs Kenai and Miki, thank you so much. It is because of you that we are able to continue our work supporting these heroes when they need us most. Get well soon, Kenai, we are all rooting for you and wishing you a smooth and speedy recovery. 💙🇬🇧🐶🚔

It’s been a rollercoaster 24 hours for RPD Kenai, who served with North Yorkshire Police. On Sunday evening, he was out for his evening stroll with his new family following retirement when tragedy struck. Whilst chasing his ball, Kenai fractured his elbow. After being admitted to the emergency vets in the early hours, the Foundation arranged for Kenai to be transferred to specialist animal hospital Pennine Referrals, where surgeons operated and repaired the fracture in his leg. He now has a long road to recovery ahead. Jess, his owner, said: “We called the charity from the emergency vets and Kieran kindly arranged for Kenai to be taken to a specialist referral centre nearby and said the Foundation would cover the costs. It’s been a huge weight off our mind. Now we can focus on getting Kenai better and helping with his long rehabilitation.” Kenai’s treatment has cost in excess of £5,000. If you can spare just £1 to help him on his way to recovery, we would be eternally grateful. Donate to his JustGiving page here ➡️ /campaign/north-yorkshire-police-dogs Wishing you a speedy recovery, Kenai. We are right by your side, every step of the way. 💙🐶🇬🇧🚔

We are delighted to announce that we are sponsoring the 64th Annual Police Dog Trials, hosted by West Yorkshire Police next week. 🚔🐶 The National Police Dog Trials is a celebration of the extraordinary skill, dedication and partnership shown by police dogs and their handlers from across the UK, recognising the vital role these incredible dogs play in protecting our communities every single day. Our founder, Kieran Stanbridge, said: "We’re honoured to be sponsoring this year’s event hosted by West Yorkshire Police as part of our continued commitment to supporting serving and retired police dogs across the UK. “We’re looking forward to attending the trials, meeting handlers from forces nationwide, celebrating these phenomenal teams in action, and sharing more about the work we are doing to improve the lives of serving police dogs while also supporting hundreds of retired dogs after their service comes to an end.” We can’t wait to be part of such an important event and to celebrate the bravery, skill and dedication of the UK’s police dog teams. 🎉💙🇬🇧

Yesterday, we had the privilege of spending the evening at the Humberside Police Federation Bravery Awards, where the heroic duo, PC Tom Marsden and PD Yoiko, received their Federation Bravery Award, with Yoiko attending the ceremony in a very dapper tuxedo. Back in 2024, PC Marsden and PD Yoiko detained a violent suspect armed with a shovel inside a building that had been set on fire. During the incident, Yoiko put himself in harm’s way to protect PC Marsden and prevent the suspect from harming other officers at the scene. Together, they bravely and successfully arrested the suspect. Their extraordinary bravery saw them receive the Thin Blue Paw Outstanding Bravery Award last year, and yesterday’s recognition was truly well deserved. 👏💙🐶🇬🇧

RPD Audi, who was stabbed in the head in the line of duty while serving with Staffordshire Police, has recently been diagnosed with advanced osteoarthritis in his spine and elbows, caused by a lifetime of service. Thanks to your support, we have been able to fully fund Audi’s treatment, in excess of £2,500. This includes weekly hydrotherapy and laser therapy to support his joints and better manage his pain. We’ve got you, Audi. It’s our honour to be there for you in your time of need. 💙🚔🐶🇬🇧

We would like to wish good luck to all the incredible runners who are tackling marathons on behalf of the Foundation over the coming weeks, from the historic streets and world-famous landmarks of the London Marathon to the sun-drenched seaside route of the Southampton Marathon. Cambridgeshire PC Kirsten, pictured with her retired police dog Molly and failed search dog Goose, is taking on her first marathon in London this weekend. Paul, a sergeant in the Met, will be tackling his second London Marathon to raise money for our amazing family of retired dogs. An Inspector from Herts Police will be taking on his first ever London Marathon in aid of our Foundation. Good luck to all the runners and thank you for your support. 👏💙🐶🚔🇬🇧

Meet Heidie, a former Police Scotland tracking legend, crime fighting pro, and… accidental cannabis connoisseur 😅 After four years of sniffing out trouble, it seems retirement has really gone to her head. On a late night walk, Heidie’s famous nose led her straight to something she definitely was not trained to detect… cannabis, all completely unbeknown to her owner 👀🌿 Fast forward to 1am: wobbly legs, panicked human, emergency vet dash, only to discover this decorated retired police dog had, quite literally, overdone it on the green stuff 🤦‍♀️ Thankfully, after some quick treatment and probably a very confusing nap, Heidie was back on her paws, dignity slightly questionable but tail still wagging 💚 Her owner and former handler Jo said it best: “Quite funny for a retired police dog to get caught red handed on drugs!” 😂 Even the best noses have an off day, but we would prefer our retired officers stick to biscuits, not evidence 🚨 It was our absolute pleasure to cover the cost of Heidie’s emergency treatment in full, because when our retired police dogs need help, we have always got their backs 🇬🇧💙🚔

Following a distinguished career with Kent Police, Retired Police Dog Wilson has swapped crime fighting for compost and taken up a new role as a “landscape gardener.” His responsibilities include digging holes exactly where they are not wanted, uprooting plants for quality control, and occasionally making off with the odd tool. From chasing suspects to rearranging flowerbeds, a true professional through and through. 🌱🐾

We are saddened to announce the passing of RPD Rook, a Dutch Herder who proudly served with the Police Service of Northern Ireland for five years, where he made a lasting impression. Remembered by his handler as ‘fearless’, Rook retired to spend his days by his handler’s side, enjoying a quieter life after his years of dedicated service. The Foundation was proud to support Rook throughout his retirement, providing regular hydrotherapy sessions, pain relief medication, and several procedures to remove lumps. It is our honour to share these heartfelt words from his handler: "Rook was my shadow for 13 years. He was alongside me day and night throughout his working life as my fearless partner, and there was nobody I trusted more to have my back. He was a pleasure to work with, and he was the dog everyone wanted. Everyone knew his name. He made it to thirteen-and-a-half before his kidneys finally failed him, and I was by his side as he passed away at home, leaving me absolutely heartbroken. He was a beautiful little character and, in his day, a force to be reckoned with. I will forever be indebted to Thin Blue Paw for all of the help they provide."

🚨 We’re thrilled to announce that the UK is the first country to introduce Dachshunds as general purpose police dogs 🚨 Following an extremely thorough vetting process (and several sausages), these highly determined, sharp-nosed recruits have proven they’ve got exactly what it takes. Small in stature but big in bravery, Dachshunds bring persistence, intelligence, and an uncanny ability to track anything... especially snacks. Please join us in welcoming PD Sausage to his new role! 👏💙🚔🇬🇧🐶
