N#1 Berimbau — First Video Release ~ Miniaturas Sonoras ~ is a mini-EP of short musical pieces in which Brazilian percussionist and multi-instrumentalist *Thiago Trad*, based in Brooklyn, NY, presents part of his research with ancestral instruments from Afro-Brazilian culture in dialogue with synthesizers and electronic effects, creating bridges between tradition and the contemporary. Inspired by icons of world percussion such as Naná Vasconcelos, Dinho Nascimento, Airto Moreira, Papete, and Mestre Lorimbau, Trad explores new sonic territories through the berimbau. Using a glass cup as a slide and incorporating delay effects, he expands the technical and expressive possibilities of the instrument. With an experimental and minimalist approach, Trad turns his attention to the berimbau—an instrument traditionally associated with capoeira—revealing a sound that echoes the deep roots of the blues and the timbre of an electric guitar. Na última sexta-feira, a convite do @rhythmicartscenternyc , compartilhei um pouco da minha bagagem cultural em um encontro de troca com artistas da cena musical e do tap dance em Nova York. Sou muito grato a @mariaclaralaet , @nicholasvanyoung , @wuwu828 e a todos os envolvidos por tornarem possível esse projeto tão bonito. Em breve, vou iniciar uma série de atividades voltadas à pesquisa do ritmo, com práticas coletivas abertas a toda a comunidade. . . Last Friday, at the invitation of the Rhythmic Arts Center, I shared a bit of my cultural background in an exchange with artists from the music and tap dance scene in New York. I’m truly grateful to Maria Clara, Nicolas, Melissa, and everyone involved for making this beautiful project possible.
