We’re thrilled to share a statement from The Workshop team, announcing the worst kept secret that we are to be the new custodians of the Old Library in King’s Lynn!
Thanks to our secured investment from The Geoffrey Watling Charity and The Architectural Heritage Fund, we’ll be able to preserve the Old Library and keep it in sustainable community use. We know this building and everything that it presents is important to residents and our communities, and we are eager to start delivering inspiring opportunities that honours the heritage of those that have come before us in the building.
We’re proud of what we have achieved so far - the work of our participants, community groups and the networks of partners that continue to support our work, including Kings Lynn Library, teams and Cllrs at Norfolk County Council and King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council.

Launching Creative Confidence this Spring! 🥳
Are you, or know someone, aged 11-16 who would like to explore the arts? In this FREE 10-week course, you’ll work with local professional tutors who will build confidence, self-expression and positive wellbeing through creativity 🎨
Covering a range of activities, including crafts, drama and movement. Every week gives you something meaningful to take away, celebrating the voices and talents of young people.
To end the programme, you’ll be able to celebrate and showcase what you’ve created by inviting friends and family to a sharing 🎭

We are looking for a cast of 15 SEND Adults to join us for a welcoming and creative movement course inspired by the colour and energy of carnival.
Across 8 weeks we’ll work with choreographers to get ready for the Royal Norfolk Show in June; creating pieces for a procession and performance.

John shares his life story in the hope of inspiring his grandson, but he’s not sure whether his history can truly connect with the youth of today. It’s intimate, moving and full of heart, inviting audiences to reflect on what we pass down and what we hold onto.
The show is inspired by the real life of Alfred John Ashley Ridgeon, an East Anglian man who feared being forgotten and wrote down his life story to preserve it.

Office upgrade in the Old Library for our Venue Manager 🙌
Most people who have come through The Workshop’s doors will know Megan, but anyone that doesn’t.. here’s an introduction!
She joined the team on a six month placement as a Front of House Assistant in 2021 via the Kickstart scheme, set up by the government for 16-24 yr olds.
At the end of the placement, she was taken on permanently, and says “The Kickstart scheme was a great entry point to gain skills and develop, but I also saw myself grow in confidence and knew I still had more to gain.”
In 2023, Megan continued to pursue a career at The Workshop and has since been managing the venue full time; “I’ve really enjoyed being able to dedicate creative energy into this role, as a creative myself I love supporting local artists, participants and seeing King’s Lynn evolve.”
Being born and raised in King’s Lynn, she feels pride on the direction the town is going, “I often say I wish there was something like The Workshop when I was growing up here.”
Megan has seen all stages of The Workshop, from our pop-up site and now our forever home at the Old Library so an office upgrade is certainly deserved! “I know this building is important to the community and we will continue to honour it. I’m ecstatic that we can grow our work and bring meaningful opportunities to the town.”

Cloud Busting is returning for a final run! ⛅️
We are inviting you into The Workshop’s new home at the Old Library in King’s Lynn for a special performance.
Cloud Busting is a moving story about friendship, difference and the courage to stand up for someone who sees the world a little differently.
This show is especially meaningful for us. Some of the young people have been with The Workshop since we opened six years ago, and this will be the group’s FIRST show in our new home.

In an intergenerational collaboration between @bootworkstheatre and a group of local nine-year-old children, young people share their touching and humorous thoughts on the world they live in.
