WOMEN MONEY & PHILANTHROPY was the topic of our panel yesterday for @thewhatalliance . Thank you to our TWA Allies and friends for being with us at @theportal_house yesterday for a meaningful discussion with our Allies and panelists @jen_risher @angiejeanmarie and Barbara Pierce. It was a joy to be in community with compassionate women who are thinking about how to use their money, influence and relationships to shape the world. We are so grateful to Archie @archeehoo for doing all the heavy lifting and orchestrating a dream team to make this happen. When we built The What Alliance we imagined our events feeling as intimate as a best friend’s living room. Tim Chang and The Portal team made our dreams a reality. We’re also grateful for @thevfoundation for providing the nips and nibbles. We hope this is the beginning of many more honest, joyful conversations about women, money, and philanthropy. We’d love to know about the #1 non-profit you gave the most to last year and why. Drop in the comments.

We’ve weathered some dystopian seeming situations since the year 2000 (cue Conan skit). Whatever ‘26 brings, we’re ready for it! As long as we’re doing it together. (ofc the last time we said this was NYE 2020 😬) Happy New Year to you and yours! 🥂

NOLA WRAP 🎷✨ A look back at last week’s leadership retreat in New Orleans for @thewhatalliance —from the last precious moments at our partners departures lunch at @galatoiresrestaurant to our first-night dinner at @hotelstvincent We’ve produced many gatherings over the years, but this one was solid gold. Instead of panels and presentations, we focused on connection, experiences, and delight—making sure all 40 women met, mingled, and truly saw each other. When we hit planning snags, we leaned on a wise mantra from TWA Ally @bronwynsf ‘CONNECTION OVER PERFECTION’ and some of our most spontaneous moments turned out to be the most powerful. For those who’ve followed us since our Splendora days circa 1999, you know our pronouns have always been We/Us. It’s never just been about us—it’s a mindset that includes our team, our readers, and now, our Allies. Twenty-five years, three companies, and countless pivots later, we’re still partners, still BFFs, and still writing in the third person. 💛 Five years later, watching the friendships and ideas that sparked in NOLA reminded us why we always say that COMMUNITY IS THE NEW SOCIAL. Our Allies are our We. 💫 This weekend, that We expanded to include new voices like Alanah Odoms @aodoms Executive Director of @aclu.louisiana and Maggy Baccinelli @maggyrose Founder of the Louisiana Alliance—leaders fighting for justice and equity. By the end, a group who first met at Table Four had already decided to take on weaving social justice and impact for ALL women into TWA. That’s the power of bringing together brilliant women together with diverse expertise —✨ connection, momentum, and the start of something bigger than any one of us.

WHAT TO WATCH: ‘The Seed of the Sacred Fig,’ an Oscar-nominated drama shot in secret in Iran was high on our list since 2024 but we kept opting for something lighter. We finally watched it on a flight yesterday and was moved to tears by the outstanding female performances, the bravery of the actors, writer-director Mohammad Rasoulof who crafted a morally and emotionally complex screenplay, and everyone who risked their lives to make this both tender and brutal film—a scathing criticism of Iran’s oppressive theocracy that has forced these three beautiful young actresses in real life to have to relocate to Berlin for protection. If you haven’t seen this film, please watch it, especially if you are a woman. Because as the poet Emma Lazarus inscribed on the statue of liberty, “Until we are all free, we are none of us free.”

CHEERS FROM JOLLY OLD LONDON. This is our first post in two and a half years. Amy @huddyparker and I have been life partners since 1999 in three different ventures. This year we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of @THE WHAT. We’re grateful to all of our supportive and encouraging readers and friends who have stuck by us all these years. We never take you for granted and will keep sharing all the things that make our lives, businesses, hopes and dreams alive. A special shout out to our loving husbands who take care of the kids and keep the home fires burning while we conduct our “research” (and yes we used the Glow filter because we’re jet lagged AF) Thank you @zemj for hiring Amy in the year 2000 and promising that I’d love her. We all need friends we trust completely and whose advice we follow without question. It’s what we hope to be to our readers and Allies. 🤩

INSTA OUT. Amy’s response when I asked if we should think about bringing back The What’s Instagram account in 2023. (Thank you @jessicapaulphoto for the ad hoc shoot) And yes this photo is filtered like a mofo. If we’re unresponsive here it’s because WE DELETED INSTAGRAM from our Home Screens. See you IRL 💛
