The frontline in the fight against MAGA has moved to Louisiana this week as their Republican Speaker of the House openly called on the Supreme Court to overturn the 14th Amendment.
Listen to @ACLU.Lousiana ’s Alanah Odoms (@aodoms ) and I break it down the latest episode of GLOVES OFF.
Listen to some of the speech Alanah Odoms, our executive director, gave at last night’s town hall on the voting rights crisis and the attack on Black representation. Powerful words in a dark time that give us light and hope. #votingrights #neworleans #louisiana #scotus
Today, we came together with voters from across the state to fill the halls of the Capitol in Baton Rouge. Lawmakers met in committee to review new racist voting maps in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s decision to gut the Voting Rights Act. We are not standing by. They must not be allowed to do this in silence. We will continue to make noise and fight this in every way we can. #votingrights #louisiana #callais #neworleans #batonrouge
Thank you to everyone who has supported us already today. We are here to protect every Louisianan and we can’t do that without you. If you’re able to donate today for GiveNOLA Day we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you’re not that’s okay too, your support in every way helps build this movement and work. #givenola #givenoladay #louisiana #votingrights #neworleans
Alanah Odoms, our executive director, went on CNN this week to explain the severity of the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais. Despite this detrimental loss we are not giving up. We’re working day and night organizing voters, planning next steps and suing the tyrants in power. #votingrights #callais #louisiana
The Voting Rights Act is widely hailed as the crown jewel of the Civil Rights Movement and is the backbone of our multiracial democracy.
Today’s shameful Supreme Court decision is a devastating blow to hard-fought progress, but it is not the end of the road.
Yesterday, Alanah Odoms, our executive director, caught up with @calvin4clerk after his swearing in ceremony. It was an honor to be there in support of him. #calvinduncan #louisiana #neworleans
Alanah Odoms, our executive director, testified in committee this week against all three racist bills that target Black Orleans Parish judiciary members. This is part of her testimony against SB 256, which aims to eliminate New Orleans’ Clerk of Criminal Court position, which @calvin4clerk was recently elected to in a landslide victory. These bills are not about efficiency. They are the same racist bigotry aimed at Black and brown communities that this state has seen over and over throughout its dark history. This time, they come from the governor’s lapdogs who are at his beck and call. Time to make noise. We will never stop fighting back against this pathetic, shameful administration. #louisiana #racism #neworleans #batonrouge
Alanah Odoms, our executive director, spoke beautifully to the crowd at Saturday’s No Kings rally. We must continue to build on our momentum and get organized. And we MUST be in community to truly engage with folks that are being impacted. #nokings #louisiana #neworleans #ACLU
