Circularity in Lighting ♻️
Circularity proposes a shift away from the traditional cradle-to-grave model toward systems centered on reuse, refurbishment, adaptability, and redistribution.
Rather than treating lighting as disposable, this framework imagines lighting systems evolving across multiple users and lifecycles over time.

Lighting Forward ♻️
This month’s In Situ explores circularity in lighting, reflecting on reuse, adaptability, material stewardship, and the future lifecycle of lighting systems.
Alongside the research, we share reflections from Japan and the atmospheres, materiality, and spatial sensibilities that continue to shape our relationship with light.

As conversations around embodied carbon continue to reshape architecture and construction, lighting remains at the beginning of its own sustainability dialogue.
This research explores how the industry can rethink lighting beyond specification alone, considering lifecycle, reuse, and long-term material impact.

Passage
Light reveals itself differently in motion.
A quiet transition between shadow and glow, where depth softens and the edges of the room begin to disappear.
The figure becomes scale, silhouette, and presence within the composition.

Threshold of light
A field of vertical light compresses space into a moment, where the body becomes part of the composition.
Intensity, repetition, and reflection dissolve edges, creating an almost immaterial boundary between light and surface.

InterVest Headquarters ✨
A dynamic play of linear light creates rhythm and continuity across the workplace, bringing structure, repetition, and visual calm to the space.

💡With Saint Ann’s Maker Space, we saw firsthand how quality of light and the right temperature can completely change how a room feels.
The layout transitions from street-facing workshop rooms with large windows, to computer lab spaces more nestled into the building, drastically shifting in conditions. Across each program, @theseed.lighting created intentional, inspired lighting schemas to set the right tone per space.
We’re glad to be collaborating with The Seed again at Heights Casino. More to come. 💫

Continuity, extended
Argo Factory Museum ✨
A soft glow traces the skylight, allowing light to expand across the surfaces and dissolve the junction between wall and ceiling.
Rather than defining the opening, it releases light into the space, creating a quiet, continuous field. Lighting Design by @theseed.lighting

Continuity, in light.
1:1 mockups exploring diffusion, edges, and continuity, seeking a glow that dissolves the fixture into architecture.

A soft glow traces the sculptural stair, separating it from the backdrop and allowing its form to read with clarity and depth. The vertical wood rhythm becomes a luminous surface, while the light gently spills into the seating area below, defining it with warmth and intimacy.

The city becomes the brightest surface.
Everything else softens.
A single line of light defines the space, not as a feature, but as a quiet boundary.

Framed by sweeping city views and anchored by a historic 30-foot diameter clock, this workspace carries a strong presence, one that called for a restrained and integrated lighting approach.
Light is embedded within architectural elements, washing the ceiling to establish a soft ambient layer while introducing precision at the scale of the desk. The balance between openness and enclosure is shaped through material, form, and light, supporting both focus and collaboration throughout the space.
