On November 10, 2020, “Trailblazers: The Black Pioneers Who Have Shaped Canada” was published by Chapters/Indigo. Written by @tiyahna_ and illustrated by myself (@theroyceproject ), the book introduces readers to Canada’s Black History through under-told stories of over forty Black change makers. The book is also available in French under the title, “Visionnaires : Les personnes noires qui ont façonnée le Canada”

Before the book was picked up by a publisher, Tiyahna and I leaned on our community and launched a Kickstarter and we received overwhelming support, which underlined how much a book like this was missing in the public space.

To this day I still get messages from friends and people who spot the book in stores and send me a picture or let me know they got a copy for their kids. It’s even more heartwarming to hear from teachers, parents, and students that the book is being used in classes to teach kids about Canada’s black history.
