I can’t believe they are canceling the Comedy Writing and Performance program at Humber College. I would not be where I am today without it.
At Humber I met so many great peers and teachers who are all still active in the industry today. I met the brilliant
@duke.robin Mel Johnson and Allan Guttman who encouraged me to get into
@thesecondcity where I would train at the
@secondcitytcto (eventually go on to be the head of the A-E improv programs), and have a dream come true becoming a member of three
@thesecondcityto Mainstage casts and
@shethepeoplesc . None of this would have happened without Humber’s comedy program or the empowerment from this extraordinarily talented staff.
I got to parody the program head
@aclarkcomedy to his face with a year’s end presentation lampooning (with love), all of the staff. He taught us where our Canadian comedy roots began, endowing us with respect for the people whose shoulders we stand on today.
@brad.reed.77 would go on (and continue to be) my sketch troupe’s number one fan. When he showed us Nichols and May it changed my life. His kindness when my anxiety reared its head during midterms was met with compassion and a relentless commitment to meeting me (and all of his students), where they were at instead of where the system needed them to be. This changed how I approached others.
@lustymannequins owe you a chicken parm on a bun and a diet Dr Pepper soon!
Where else would I have been able to play Lucille Ball and a funeral director in the same show? Fun fact when we were filming the I Love Lucy sketch, we got interrupted because neighbours thought we were filming a vintage porno.
Where else would
@roxma16 and I have been able to have the most grotesquely hilarious food fight for a final exam? Or would
@paul.lillakas and I have been able to solve the world’s problems during the commute?
Oh the many meals at the Greek Texan, the defying fear, embracing courage, the finding your misfits and the late night study sessions at the asylum on the lake.
Humber, so many great people have been a part of this program. You can’t work on a Canadian show without running into an alumni. Ending this access is a damned shame.
