Congratulations to Vladimir Kanic, The Power Plant x RBC Emerging Artist Network member, on being awarded the Breakthrough Artist Award by the @TorontoArtsFoundation ! 👏✨ Vladimir Kanic (@VladdKanic ) is a transmedia artist creating living algae sculptures that transform spectators’ breath and carbon emissions into oxygen, confronting climate crisis impacts. Informed by maritime heritage and ocean freediving experience, he treats breath as method and material, envisioning symbiotic futures through interspecies collaboration, ecological care, and embodied environmental awareness. In 2022, Vladimir was selected for The Power Plant‘s RBC Emerging Artist Network (now the RBC Artist Program), supported by @RBC Foundation, which provides mentorship, peer exchange, and learning opportunities, along with workshops and talks by exhibiting artists, guest speakers, and arts professionals. Do you remember artist Simon Fuh from our last group exhibition 𝘪𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘭 in Winter 2023? Simon (@_Fuhsta ) is currently presenting his solo exhibition 𝘊𝘰𝘸𝘣𝘰𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘵 at @YYZArtistsOutlet — don’t miss it before it closes tomorrow, April 18! 🤠⏳ 𝘊𝘰𝘸𝘣𝘰𝘺 𝘗𝘰𝘦𝘵 features a series of highly detailed pen drawings alongside an accompanying text work. Together, they capture both the mundane and the grotesque moments of everyday life in Regina, Saskatchewan, where Fuh grew up. The series began after the artist returned to Regina following six years in Toronto.
