Do you find the concept of online physiotherapy odd? It may come as a surprise to know that youâre not the only one! đ
Check out this video for a super quick overview of some of the tools we have for assessing you in our Telehealth (online) consults. Interestingly, there is no difference in how we assess someone online as how we would in person, as evidence and experience shows us there are many amazing ways we can assess injuries online just as effectively as in person. đ€Ż The Pole Physio is an online only clinic so we can service the wider pole dancing community with the most knowledgeable pole dancing clinicians worldwide, whilst keeping our appointments incredibly affordable for you! đ
And weâre so lucky to have such a wonderful population to treat that makes this possible. đ„°
Polers and aerialists generally:
đ Are active people. They know how to move.
đ Are used to taking instruction. Youâre used to being taught new movements and trying them out.
đ Want to learn. You want to know whatâs wrong, how to fix it, how to get your trick, or how to not let this injury happen again.
đ Have the capacity to listen to their body and communicate what they feel.
đ Are proactive. You want to get better, because you donât want to be stuck not being able to train!
Curious to see how we work? Try us out đ. We always want the best possible care for our patients, so rest assured if there is something we just canât fully assess or treat online (exceptionally rare), we will refer you onto the best person in your area for further treatment with complete assessment and handover. So what are you waiting for?! Book with our amazing team via the link in our bio. đ

We know a lot of you have been following us for a while but are not convinced that Telehealth (online) consults would work for you. đ€ And we do understand peopleâs confusion about how it can work- it seems strange in a world where weâre used to making an in-person appointment and expecting that being touched has to be a part of getting better. đ€
In the coming weeks, weâll be running you through how a rehab for injuries works over Telehealth with us. Weâre hoping this series will give you a much better idea on how our appointments run, and how we support clients with rehab for injuries from afar! đ€
Now, we arenât saying online consults are the only way to go, but they do have their advantages! Choosing to see us online also doesnât mean you canât go have a massage or some hands-on treatment when itâs appropriate either! We work collaboratively with all types of health care providers to support our patients needs đ
If youâve been putting off having your injury looked at or youâre not quite getting to 100% with traditional treatments, take the leap and book with us (link in bio). We promise you wonât regret it! đ

Whilst early stage injury management may involve assessment and treatment utilising a plinth, if you stay stuck on a treatment bed with your healthcare professional - then youâre not being prepared for pole and are setting yourself up for re-injury. đ€
Pole dancers are high level athletes. The demands on your body are significant, and your rehab needs to reflect that.
If your clinician isnât progressively loading you, challenging your strength, and building your capacity before returning to pole, then they are doing you a disservice. â
Pole dancers place incredible amounts of stress on their bodies. Rehab should match that. It should be progressive, it should be challenging, and it should build you back to the level your sport requiresânot just get you out of pain.
Because when rehab falls short, itâs the athlete who pays the price. We see it all the time - returning too early, not strong enough, and ending up back where they started (or worse).
Having a physio that understands pole is great. But are they a good physio? Do they understand strength and conditioning? Are they well equipped to get you back where you need to be? đ€
This isnât about doing more exercise for the sake of it - itâs about doing what actually prepares you for pole. So get off that plinth as soon as you can.
If your rehab doesnât replicate the demands of pole, itâs worth asking why. âš

đš YOU ASKED. WE LISTENED. đš
Our BRAND NEW 2 Day Full Body Gym Program is officially here đ„
So many of you asked for a full body training option and we heard.
A simple, effective way to build strength for pole by training your whole body across two sessions each week.
Because letâs be honest. Most pole dancers know they *should* be strength training⊠but most either
â avoid the gym because they do not know where to start
â waste time on random workouts that do not transfer
â or train in ways that leave them more fatigued than stronger
That stops now.
Our new 12 week 2 Day Full Body Program helps you build real transferable strength for pole.
Think
đȘ stronger inversions
đȘ better shoulder engagement
đȘ more active flexibility
đȘ increased control
đȘ a stronger more resilient body
We also offer a 2 Day Upper/Lower Split and a 3 Day Push/Pull/Legs Split, with core training included in every program.
Expertly built inside our app with structured weekly progressions and support from our Strength and Conditioning coach every step of the way.
No guesswork. Just training that works.
Comment POLESTRONG (one word) and we will send you the details đȘđ„
People often assume dietitians just write meal plans. đ„Ł
But when you work with medical conditions, injuries, hormones, GI issues, fatigue and high training loads⊠nutrition becomes much more complex than that. đ«š
A big part of my job is understanding why symptoms are happening, and helping people fuel their bodies in a way that supports recovery, performance and everyday life. Itâs part physiology, part investigation, and part counselling.
This Dietitiansâ Week Iâm proud to be part of a profession that works at the intersection of science, behaviour and care. đ

RANT INCOMING. Itâs time for some hard truths with @simonemuscat.physio :
Hypermobility and connective tissue disorders are still barely taught in healthcare degrees. đĄ
At best? A quick mention. Maybe the Beighton score.
At worst? Nothing at all.
Across 9+ years of study, I was never properly taught how to recognise or manage conditions like hEDS. đ€Ż
And that has consequences.
I still think about a patient from early in my career.
Complex symptoms. Constant pain. No clear answers.
She was passed between professionals, dismissed because her scans didnât âexplainâ her symptoms, and eventually lost access to care altogether.
We were all trying - but we didnât have the knowledge.
Now? I see it differently. I understand what we were missing. And I know how much more we could have done.
Thatâs the part that stays with you. I will never forget this patient.
This isnât about blame - itâs about a gap in education that still exists.
And it needs to change.
Because people with hypermobility donât just need to be recognised. They need to be understood, supported, and managed properly. đ
We need healthcare professionals who donât just spot the âzebraââŠ
but actually know what to do next. đŠ

đ§ SHOULD YOU ICE DURING CLASS?
Short answer: No.
Here's the scenario: You're mid-class, something feels off after a trickânot injured enough to stop, but uncomfortable enough that you want to do something. Your instinct might be to grab an ice pack.
Resist.
What to do instead:
1. Identify what movements aggravate it
2. Modify around the discomfortâdifferent grip, different entry, reduced range
3. Pivot to a completely different focus if needed (flexibility work, floorwork, conditioning that avoids the area)
4. When in doubt, reach out to us! đ
But waitâwhat about ACTUAL injuries?
If you DO sustain an acute injury, "just ice it" is outdated advice. The current evidence-based framework is PEACE & LOVE (Dubois & Esculier, 2020 - British Journal of Sports Medicine):
PEACE (immediate management)
đč Protect â unload/restrict movement initially
đč Elevate â above heart level when possible
đč Avoid anti-inflammatories â yes, including ice. Inflammation is part of healing.
đč Compress â reduce swelling mechanically
đč Educate â trust the process, avoid over-treatment
LOVE (after the first days)
đč Load â let pain guide gradual return to movement
đč Optimism â mindset matters for recovery outcomes
đč Vascularization â pain-free cardio promotes blood flow
đč Exercise â progressively restore mobility, strength & proprioception
The takeaway: Ice isn't evil, but it's not the hero we once thought. Your body's inflammatory response exists for a reasonâdon't reflexively suppress it.
Questions? That's what we're here for.
