Our research students baked their research! 🍰 Last term our PhD and MRes students took part in a special networking event that showed off their baking skills as well as their research practice when our baker/researchers turned their PhD topics into edible masterpieces 🧁💯 Taking part were Rizpah Amadasun (PhD, School of Communication), Jinsun Lee (PhD, School of Design), Stuart Lee (PhD, School of Arts & Humanities) and Vera Melo (MRes RCA). Participants explained how their creations encapsulated their research, and they were judged by our three judges: Prof Hala Mansour, Prof Teal Triggs and Simon Thompson. This was followed by a social in which guests were invited to eat their creations 😋 Rizpah Amadasun took the 1st prize for her 'Bird Cage and Rotating Cakes' that evoked her research on building inclusive spaces and the misogynoir microaggressions black British women experience. Massive congratulations to all our star bakers! 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #PhD #PhDStudent #PhDResearch

Term 1 done! Moving to London was definitely not an easy decision for me to make, but looking back now I’m glad that I did. Happy to develop my research there, and more importantly to have such great and lovely encounters and friendship 😌 And my desk just gets messier and messier 😅

✨ We're at the Design Museum! ✨ Our SustainLab RCA installation proposal 'The Tree of Kindness' has been shortlisted for the Design Museum x Opportunity Kensington Reusable Christmas Tree Competition 🎄💚 @designmuseum @highstreet_kensington The shortlisted proposals — including ours — are now on display at the Reusable Christmas Tree Exhibition at the Design Museum from 3 Dec 2025 – 4 Jan 2026. ‘The Tree of Kindness’ reimagines the Christmas tree as a symbol of community, generosity & circular design. Made from reclaimed solar panel materials, its modular rings and magnetic triangular panels create a flexible, demountable structure designed with sustainability at its core. At its base, shelves, hooks and display spaces invite visitors to share books, clothing or small gifts, transforming the installation concept into a community exchange hub — a festive celebration of shared kindness. 🎁✨ 🌟 2025/26 Project Team Aiden Dutton (Architecture MA) @chefboay Anubhav Deka (Photography MA) @anubhav.deka Elina Yumasheva (Painting MA) @elinayum_art Giulio Di Anselmo (Design Products MA) @giulio.d.a Haoxuan Zhang (IDE MA/MSc) @haoxuan_3am Hinna Khan (IDE MA/MSc) @hinnakhan.design Leona Lengyel (Contemporary Art Practice MA) @leonalengyel.artist Trần Quang Đại (Contemporary Art Practice MA) @tranquangdai Vera L. Let Freedom Bring a collaborative exhibition between Powerhouse Arts & AANYAA curated by Eric Shiner Powerhouse Arts @powerhouse_arts 322 3rd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215 ON VIEW: November 13 - December 11, 2025 OPENING: November 18, 6:30-8:30pm Artistic freedom must be championed at all costs in our ever-shifting sociopolitical reality. The notion of freedom is fundamental to the American condition, and has always been a heavily loaded concept vis-à-vis freedom of speech, freedom of religion and other founding principles. On the eve of this nation’s 250th birthday, this exhibition examines works that exemplify, question or critique freedom in all of its many forms. ==Participating alumni (part 2 of 2)== Sophia Kayafas (MFA 2017) @saphayaks Debra Goertz (MFA 2000) @dkgoertz Ruoyu Gong (MFA 2025) @ruoyugong_fineart Kristy Gordon (MFA 2013) @kristygordonart Pragati Gunasekar (MFA 2025) @pragatig.art Alexa Huang (MFA 2025) @alexasassybean Will Kurtz (MFA 2009) @willkurtz Helena La Rota Lopez (MFA 2019) @hlarotalopez Nico LeBarge (MFA 2010) @nlebarge Lisa Lebofsky (MFA 2006) @lisa_lebofsky Vitaly Lopez (MFA 2022) @vitalyart__ Alvaro Luna (MFA 2011) @blackluna_art Vera Melo (MFA 2025) @theperuvian_ John Metido (MFA 2024) @artbyjohnm Elif Olmez (MFA 2025) @elifolmez_artist Bar Plivazky (MFA 2025) https://www.plivazky.bar/portfolio Jeremy Roy (MFA 2024) @jeremyroyart
