Painted Brain Co-founder and Executive Director Rayshell Chambers is urging organizations, hospitals, businesses, and community members to pay attention to the Medi-Cal and community organization cuts and understand how these reductions will significantly impact people with mental health needs. With limited government support, it’s up to us to work together to keep community organizations thriving. Painted Brain’s programs provide low-barrier services, emotional support, and community care that mental hospitals are not able to offer.

Painted Brain is a peer-run nonprofit based in Los Angeles that supports the most vulnerable community members in California and advocates for equality in mental healthcare. Our City of Angels is unlike any other as we have seen an outpouring of love and community organizing to help support the hundreds of thousands of residents in crisis due to the Los Angeles wildfires.
This is exactly what Painted Brain does in a state of emergency by taking action and deploying free crisis counseling and mental heath services in partnership with CalHOPE, a program funded by FEMA.
The mission of Painted Brain is creating lasting, community-based solutions to mental health challenges and the impact of social injustice through arts, advocacy, and enterprise.
