Took a trip to @theoldestpub over the weekend & I took a bunch of photos so you can see how it went 👀😇
This has been on my list for the longest time & I was so excited to finally visit! What a gorgeous piece of history we have right in our county 🥹 I loved the decor & the preservation. The way this building has been looked after is so heart warming & wonderful to see!
Food wise we had:
Bread & Olives to start - honestly this was huge lol, we could’ve shared it between the four of us, not just the two lol! Bread was warm & gorgeous, olives were salty & plentiful!
Mains, I swear we just picked the dishes with the coolest names 😎Luke had the “Snorkers Porkers” aka - sausage & mash! The crispy onions were so fragrant & the sausages were packed with flavour!! I went for the “Midsomer Murder” Pie with chips & I’m honestly still thinking about the pastry wowee that was memorably delicious! The filling was packed, with beautifully seasoned chicken & veg! Also got a mega bowl of chips too!!
Pud - After claiming we were stuffed we *somehow* managed to scoff down a Creme Brûlée which was super creamy & delicious. Also fun fact, Lukes first ever Creme Brûlée!
Cost wise our total bill came to £183(ish) this was for: 4x alcoholic drinks, 4x main meals, 2x sharer plates & 2x puddings + a 10% service charge. It is a pricier meal but the atmosphere, the quality of the food & the location - for me, made it feel justified!
Honestly it’s worth going just to see the place, but I’d recommend staying for the food too! Such a lovely meal! I’d love to come back in the summer for a drink and some more of those lovely chips!! 🫶🏼
A little slice of history with our Sunday lunch today at The Royal Standard @theoldestpub . Believed to date back to the 13th century, it is often regarded as one of England’s oldest freehouses, meaning it has remained independent of #brewery ownership and free to choose what it serves.
We went all in on the Sunday roast and tried the Royal #roast, #venison and #pork. Every single one was equally delicious. Proper hearty #flavours and beautifully cooked.
The English trifle was to die for, followed by the sticky toffee pudding, and then the apple crumble.
👻👻 One photo even shows a mysterious hanging noose like rope that wasn’t there when I deliberately captured rhe sky (compare photo and 6 - and tell me I’m imagining!). Perhaps a little touch from the centuries of folklore this old pub carries with it. But ghosts or not, I’m coming here again for the good! 😊
Last week we were kindly invited by Chiltern Brewery to visit their brewery for a tour and tasting🍺
Set in the heart of the Chiltern Hills 🌳 they have been producing proper English ales since 1980 and remain one of the few independent breweries still brewing in the traditional way 🌾
It was a great afternoon learning more about their craft and, of course, sampling a few along the way. You can enjoy their beers here at the Royal Standard of England, If you are curious to learn more, their tours are well worth a visit 🍻
Good folk of the realm, British Pie Week is upon us.
From our “Midsomer Murder” Resurrection Pie to our famous Fish Pie, the ovens are warm and the plates are ready. Alongside our classics, keep an eye out for our specials, from hearty beef pies to Deer & Beer and the much-loved Shepherd’s Pie when it graces the board.
Join us this first week of March as we honour the great British pie in proper fashion.

This is a 1:8 scale replica of the door to the @theoldestpub Royal Standard of England.
A great project to showcase different materials and techniques!
Construction is laser cut MDF, clad with individually planed and cut wooden planks. The bull’s eye window was a 3D modelled and printed buck, vacuum formed in PETG. The metal grate is bent styrene square stock. The door furnishings were sculpted digitally and resin 3D printed on my personal @elegoo Mars 5 Ultra. It’s proving to be an invaluable tool in the scale model making work! Everything is then painted and finished by hand.
