Today at CUNY @thegraduatecenter , we convened for a critical conversation about the state of human service work wages in New York.
One in nine New York employees work in human services — and 80% earn under $40,000 a year. Panelists Jennifer Jones Austin (@fpwa_nyc ), Henry Garrido (@dc37nyc ), Melanie Hartzog (@thenyfoundling ), and NYC Council Member Crystal Hudson (@cmcrystalhudson ), with moderator Michelle Yanche (@goodshepherdnyc ), tackled what raising the wage floor would really mean: for workers, families, and the care systems New York is counting on.
Leaders’ perspectives, real stakes, and a fight that continues beyond today.
In Puerto Rico, we provide high-quality early education - with a lens on helping children and families thrive and overcome challenges. More than 80% of the children in our program met/exceed expectations!
Experts from across the public sector are coming together for an important conversation: Who Cares for New York? Wages, Human Service Workers, and the Affordability Crisis.
New research from @CUNYedu Institute for State & Local Governance reveals that 80% of New York’s human services workers earn under $40,000/year—roughly $20,000 below the most basic cost of living in NY. These are the people delivering childcare, home health care, and other essential services our city depends on—and they deserve better.
