i know my algorithm has most likely taken a big hit since my last activity 10 months ago, but my heart has not. stepping back from socials has provided me with clarity on the things and people in life that make me happy and even more clarity on the things that do not. i decided to redownload the app today to join in the communal ass slap and soak in a little digital glory celebrating @elleking and @mirandalambert #1 song at country radio, “drunk and i don’t wanna go home.” for those of you who don’t know (i tend to keep my personal life pretty close to the chest on the internet) my gig is little more complex than just making music under the night game moniker. i thrive in collaboration and creating music for other artists, especially when it means i get to explore different genres where i don’t know the “rules” and i’m not plagued by fear of past failures. after recording “companion” for the dog years record, elle and i clearly had some unfinished business to do. with the help of @bhallpaddock we threw a bunch of new paint at the wall and revisited a couple that had been busy collecting dust in the vault. elle is a once in a lifetime talent. an incredible singer with a special spirit and an untamed wild side that has become so rare in an industry that nurtures “convenience,” leaving the era of the “rock star” on life support. my time with miranda was brief but potent, a 48 hour turn around to new york city that turned into a full afternoon rager in the vocal booth. her presence and legacy shined in near intimidating fashion when she entered the room. that extra sauce, paired with the obvious connection the girls have from spending months on the road together, gave “drunk” the x-factor it needed. i didn’t know this until reading miranda’s post a few minutes ago, but this marks the first time since 1993 a two female collaboration has topped the charts at country – a testament to their hard work and dedication to the performance and promoting the song even through a pregnancy. i’m super grateful for this moment and for those who helped make it happen. @jeffbraunmix@ottertainment@nashvaughn@spencernohe@steelespeakeasy@marknoel1216@maryhilliard
i told @naomi_cooke i needed to borrow her car to run a couple errands yesterday and ended up taking a small detour with the boys. don’t worry, i left you a full tank and some mud you’ll never be able to get off the undercarriage.
