May 5th marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.
The MMIP crisis is often framed within legal and jurisdictional challenges, but its impact extends deeply into public health. It affects physical safety, mental health outcomes, access to care, and community wellbeing.
Recognizing MMIP as a public health crisis is critical. Healthcare professionals play an essential role in advancing awareness, improving data practices, and advocating for systems-level change.
This work cannot be siloed. Healthcare cannot stay silent.
