Ep 321 // Molly Mary O’Brien
Molly Mary O’Brien is a Writer and Video Editor.
Molly writes for her music blog, I Enjoy Music, a newsletter called The Molly Zone, and co-hosts and co-produces the podcast, And Introducing: a “podcast about words about music.”
Molly’s Tweets landed on my page and it was where she went to a party/show in LA and had a ‘live-blog’ booth where she interviewed musicians and talked to people about music. Molly said it was so much fun, she’s mad she didn’t think of it sooner.
Isn’t that with all our projects?
Please welcome Molly Mary O’Brien to Wear Many Hats.
Wear Many Hats Podcast is available

when i was a senior at skidmore i had a job as a "student blogger" which was maybe still the best gig i ever had. i got paid to write about my life at college. i took it very seriously. i think i got paid like $10/hour? honestly still more than a lot of internet places pay people now!
i started filming stuff on my point-and-shoot camera to supplement my blogs.....like the first half of this reel, which depicts The Artifacts playing in the gorgeous @tangteachingmuseum . (@kikosoiree i am still a fan of The Artifacts' self-titled album. it is so good.) if you look carefully on youtube you can see some of my student vlogs, in which i always really, really need to trim my bangs.
a decade later i am still filming music performed by illustrious skidmore grads (bonjour @grizzev@shybabybandbk ) and i still like to document stuff...i just have a better camera. and learned how to use it on non-auto settings. when i was a college senior, i did not imagine i would be making videos professionally. i could not predict the future, i could only vibe in the present. something for me to remember now! ok byeeee
a snippet of my video for @audiofemme featuring @akalolapistola ! i've seen a couple of her shows but this was the first time i saw her do a solo set, and it was very cool to hear her usually high-energy power-pop-rock songs all stripped down ❤
here’s @parlorwalls at @audiofemme ’s @tveyenyc showcase! what a great band!! in the interview i did with them pre-show (and which you can see on @audiofemme ’s post, in my bio) drummer Chris Mulligan talked about it being ok to let your mind go to a dark place when seeing a Parlor Walls set and i thought that was really cool. it’s human nature to sort of “fight back” against uncomfortable or jarring stimuli and especially now when i feel like i’m getting a little...feral? indoors? embracing that discomfort instead of just paving over it and moving on has been helpful to me.
and i think that darkness and dissonance and aggression in @parlorwalls feels the same way — fighting against it won’t let it change you, you kind of have to surrender. Chris and @alysedreamhouse were so sweet and accommodating too — check out their tunes plz!!
