SHE IS ARLINGTON: Meet @haileemdyer , Arlington native, actress/producer/director and founder of @applewoodproductions
A 15-year professional in theatre and film, Dyer founded Applewood Productions to fill a gap she witnessed firsthand: the lack of opportunities for black and brown voices in DFW film and theatre.
Theatre is where Dyer started her professional career, spending nearly a decade in on-stage productions. When she transitioned to film in 2017, she brought that foundation with her. Applewood Productions was built on the principle of the discipline, storytelling depth, and authenticity of theatre training produces better film.
Through training and development offerings such as scriptwriting competitions and actor/screenwriter workshops, Applewood focuses on developing local talent with that integrated approach at the core.
For its clients, what sets Applewood apart is its approach. Rather than a purely technical process, Dyer takes an intuitive, tailored approach to each production, focusing on bringing the best of the people for the sake telling the most excellent story possible. So far, her work has been staged all across the DFW metroplex, including locations such as Theatre Arlington, the South Dallas Cultural Center, and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
For the past 4 years, Hailee has been taking the discipline she learned on stage and using it to train a new generation of film and theatre talent. SHE is Arlington ❤️

SHE IS ARLINGTON: Meet @alextinyb , co-owner of @m8_dancestudio and founder/director of the @texaslonestars_ , the official dance team for @tx_live
Alex started the Texas Lonestars dance team and her dance studio with the same purpose: to create opportunities for Black and brown women in dance that other spaces weren’t providing.
The Lonestars were built specifically in response to Black and brown women being overlooked by major DFW professional dance organizations. Six years later, the team stands as one of the most deliberate answers to that gap.
That same mission carries into Motiv8ion Dance Studio, where diversity is a core pillar of the business. For its students (age 3+), community impact is prioritized and baked into the program, and training extends beyond competitions, with a big focus on preparing dancers for professional and commercial careers.
A professional dancer since age 16, Alex also serves as an adjunct dance professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and has choreographed for popular recording artists including Daddy Yankee and Tay Money.
For the past 6 years, Alex has been building space for women who were told there wasn’t any, right here in the city. SHE is Arlington ♥️

SHE IS ARLINGTON: Meet @iam___jonique , celebrity body piercer and heiress to the black-owned, award-winning tattoo parlor @kandy_shop in Arlington, Texas.
Jonique spent years as the shop’s marketing manager before her father and owner @ogpoppy pushed her to pick up the needle. She taught herself through online courses and webinars, studying the European approach to piercing, an anatomy-based methodology more precise than the standard American free-hand technique.
She didn’t build her nearly 1 million-follower platform by just posting piercing content. She built it with her larger-than-life, authentic personality. The craft is what backs it up. Over a decade in the game with more than one million individual piercings done and she still treats every client like they are her first.
Da Kandy Shop itself is a 20-year-old cornerstone of the DFW minority business community, widely credited with shaping the landscape of minority-owned tattoo shops across the metroplex.
Jonique is an example of what happens when personality meets precision. SHE is Arlington ❤️

SHE IS ARLINGTON: Meet @jakethegreat_88 , founder/owner of @themodlabb salon and The Mod Academy in Arlington, Texas 💁🏻♀️
Jessica “Jake” Tafoya started The Mod Labb to address a gap she experienced firsthand: the lack of salons equipped to serve women of color. Today, every staff member is a person of color, trained to work across all hair types and textures.
Beyond the chair, Tafoya runs The Mod Academy, a professional training program for cosmetology students and working stylists to learn her advanced techniques and real-world business skills.
For community impact, Tafoya opens The Mod Labb to single mothers every year for a free haircut event, with the most recent on Mother’s Day last year and another planned for 2026.

I’m tired of owning a suite!
Not because I can’t do it,
but because I don’t want to do it alone anymore!
