What an inspirational Heroes and Monsters 2 in Los Angeles today for @themocapvaults with @richarddorton and @darrenbailey17 Our students were focused, energetic and super creative today. Variety and individuality was on point as everyone stepped up and brought their A-game! The exercises in this class pushes a performer to try new things and make it your own while adhering to structured improv and direction. What can you bring to the table that makes you stand out while juggling multiple request and direction in your scenes? Flexibility, improv and imagination is mandatory for this kind of creative work. There is no right or wrong in the creations of these characters but your choices must be strong, clear and you must fully be in control of your body and we learned how important the environment is to let them thrive. How our choices in idles, silhouettes and presentation are so vital to bringing them to life. How props are an extension of your body and how important they become when using arm extensions and weapons. How breath work was vital to all of the characters today and how to use it, change it and control it. Our heroes were heroic and our monsters ferocious. Assassins, and Elements and Werewolves, oh my! We were so proud of you today. Magic happened, lightbulbs went off and you challenged and inspired each other. Congratulations on such great work today. Welcome to Heroes and Monsters 2. What a great day for a Heroes and Monsters 1 class in Los Angeles! The second class in our series that really starts to lay the foundation for creating characters with the Mocap Vaults. There’s a fine line between being heroic or monstrous and figuring out how to bring those qualities to your characters comes in many forms and ideas. Whether we’re dealing with the elements or infusing our characters with animal characteristics and traits, it’s always a fun, creative and interesting challenge. Today our students had the opportunity to be heroic or bring their inner monsters out. Riding that fine line between good and evil and making specific and strong choices that could change the ideas of what makes us heroes or monsters. Thank you for trusting in the process and being open to exploring new ways of moving, and pushing yourselves to be better performers. Always going full on, full out, first time! You got a taste of arm extensions, and you now know, how much physicality is involved to add them to your toolbox. As always thank you to our Vaults tutors and alumni @darrenbailey17 and @ohmrhall for always keeping us safe and bringing smart, consistent and educational information to our work. There were some great breakout moments, discoveries and inspirational work from our students that lets me know, the next generation of mocap performers are going to be ready for any challenges that get thrown at them. Be very proud of your work today. You are The Mocap Vaults! #mocap # performance capture # cinematics #videogames #actortraining

From our London Mocap Guru’s and specialists @garethtaylor_director & @pwm_creative Another wonderful Saturday spent with enthusiastic gamers and actors wanting to enhance their knowledge of what happens on a Mocap shoot, and how to prepare for it. We had a great time working through all the basics for character building, working in digital environments and delving into the array of capture shenanigans that take place on a shoot. We even got time to explore QTE’s (Quick Time Events), just in case it rears its joyful head on a job. The great thing about QTE’s, as with choice based games, is that it’s fun to explore successful and unsuccessful outcomes as an actor. We are used to just one outcome/narrative ordinarily, so exploring everything that can happen to a character, emotionally and physically, can be really exciting and push you to your limits. Well done all of you for your passion and talent. Welcome to your new family, welcome...to The Mocap Vaults! #mocap #performancecapture #videogames # actortraining #cinematics If you’re interested in our program and want to know more, join our waitlist here! /waitlist-form

And that’s a wrap on CQB -3 with @thatmocapguy and @richarddorton in Los Angeles for @themocapvaults This was a new and updated version of the class where scripts and scene work were added to the structure, while still reviewing and learning new, fun and exciting skills to include in the toolbox. Adding speed and different versions of tactical reloads, so why not add a scene where reloads are front and center? Room clearing, no problem. Nothing like a hostage situation scene to amp you up! And learning new ways to disarm the enemy, let’s throw that in a scene to raise the stakes on a team! All of this lead by Marc Morisseau who taught new material and then staged the tactical work that need to happen in the scenes and then threw on his director hat so we could run them as a previs in development shoot. Having an instructor like @thatmocapguy who does this for a living everyday, guiding our students is such an honor. It was like a working day on a mocap set and our students came to kick ass! We got a chance to preview what works and doesn’t work and everyone got a chance to be part of the creative process. Thank you to our students for putting in the reps from CQB 1&2 and really being ready for this class! It was so much fun to watch and see you grow! Good guys or bad guys, space marines or aliens you proved your worthiness for the volume and the art of storytelling. You should be very proud of yourselves! Today, we had an incredibly fun and informative Arm Extension 1 class with the LA Mocap Vaults! Adding a new element and tool to your mocap bag is always exciting, and today we got to experiment with arm extensions and character creation. Creating non-human characters presents a whole new set of challenges, and under the guidance of Vaults instructor @ohmrhall , our students were eager to explore and push their bodies to new limits. This stuff ain’t easy, but so rewarding! Endurance, consistency, and creativity are key in this endeavor. We learned how our bodies respond when additional weight is added and our hands are restricted. We discovered the importance of breath work and finding internal timing and rhythm. Today everything clicked for students and teachers alike. Sound baths, music, the environment, and elemental conditions all played a role in helping us find our movements. Walking with extensions on the floor, vs the sidewalk vs the grass gave us a chance to discover each one is so different and needs to be applied to your performance. Growling, snarling, roaring, and screeching are always fun and essential in creating the next great creature! Our voice actors didn’t disappoint! Overall, it was a fantastic day, and everyone kept it creative and creepy! I’m so proud of everyone! Welcome to Arm Extensions 1!

Just announced - HEROES & MONSTERS 1 in LOS ANGELES with The Mocapman @richarddorton Saturday May 2nd 2026 10am-5pm You must have completed the Intro To Performance & Mocap Class first to take this class This class does not take place in a mocap studio or in mocap suits as it would only serve as a distraction and additional cost at this stage. Building on the skills you learned in the Intro class, this takes things to the next level, giving you advanced, practical skills that are essential for creating and playing characters in the performance capture industry. Every movement is an expression of character and as such they should all be filled with life. How a character walks, runs, turns and interacts with their world says so much about who they are. How do we adjust what we’re saying with our bodies in a subtle way to meet the demands of the director? How do we do the same thing for three other characters on the same day, making them all unique without being over the top? How do we create a living, breathing, truthful character in this piece by piece way? This class focuses on developing techniques while also familiarizing you with the type of material you will be working with as a professional performance capture actor. Richard Dorton has earned his stripes from doing these kinds of shoots for decades. He has developed iron clad techniques that are fast, effective and catch the eye of every director and game developer. He has created dozens of iconic characters in many, many games and movies. In this masterclass he will share those trade secrets and techniques with you. Assisted by Darren Bailey and Jarrell Hall, the three will put you through your paces and introduce you to new techniques and equipment like arm extensions to bring your characters to life. #mocap #performancecapture #actingclass #videogames #heroesandmonsters Link: /product-details/product/69c88d63017ca02b7a536663 Go to our website to learn more and sign up for our waitlist.
