Another wonderful Saturday spent with enthusiastic gamers and actors wanting to enhance their knowledge of what happens on a Mocap shoot, and how to prepare for it.
We had a great time working through all the basics for character building, working in digital environments and delving into the array of capture shenanigans that take place on a shoot.
We even got time to explore QTE’s (Quick Time Events), just in case it rears its joyful head on a job. The great thing about QTE’s, as with choice based games, is that it’s fun to explore successful and unsuccessful outcomes as an actor.
We are used to just one outcome/narrative ordinarily, so exploring everything that can happen to a character, emotionally and physically, can be really exciting and push you to your limits.
Well done all of you for your passion and talent.

What a lovely group of students we had on a sunny Sunday at Mountview as a new group arrived to explore all things Mocap at our infamous Intro class. So many of the students were there because of recommendations from friends and colleagues, which warms our Lycra clad hearts. We even had a student from Belgium who had travelled over specifically to train with us. We love how far people will travel for their passion!
Our Intro to Motion Capture was just that, dipping ours toes into skills training for digital character creation and working towards immersing yourself inside digital environments. We also touched on what to expect from an audition or shoot so you can create that all important good first impression. Just Announced: Cinematics Class - London November 30th
A brand new and improved Cinematics with Gareth Taylor and John Dower in Collaboration with Centroid Mocap Studio.
This class is open to students who have completed Heroes & Monsters 2 (and Pure Imagination if attended) and is the final step in the syllabus designed to ensure you deliver the best performance possible to commit to your showreel.
Spend the day in a real professional mocap setting performing monologues, scripted scenes and improvising under realistic mocap conditions at one of the most recognized mocap studios in the world. Centroid Motion Capture.
You’ll get a chance to suit up and work with a performance capture headcam, experience the technology and everything will be filmed in high quality for you to study, critically analyze your work and to add as additional acting material for your mocap reel.
The aim of the day is to get you so familiar and relaxed with the format of working in performance capture that you can handle any job. The difference in the quality of your work will be much higher because you’ll know exactly where you’re at when you step into the volume. This will be the culmination of all of your training with The Mocap Vaults.

It was such a pleasure running Sunday’s Intro to Performance Capture Workshop! We had an incredible time exploring the fundamentals of mocap performance — discovering how body language, physical storytelling, and imagination combine to bring digital characters to life.
Everyone threw themselves into the work with enthusiasm and creativity, experimenting with movement clarity, weight, and intention. I loved seeing participants break free from self-consciousness and truly play — finding how expressive even the smallest gestures can be once translated into a digital world. Whether we were embodying creatures, heroes, or everyday human actions, the room was full of laughter, focus, and curiosity.
Acting for Mocap and Pcap is such a unique element of the craft, and this workshop was a brilliant reminder of how much fun it can be to move, imagine, and perform beyond the limits of the human form.
