BODY DATA LOOP is a live performance and installation resulting from 3 years of artistic exchanges between choreographic and technology artists in Australia and Taiwan. The project is working to interrogate the value of collaboration across these disciplines, and to deepen the discourse while expanding the canon - of a third distinct artistic discipline.
These images are from the premiere performance season. The installation of BODY DATA LOOP will remain for the rest of the year at U108, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

As Lunar New Year celebrations take place, Critical Path @critical_path_ along with our friends and colleagues at Taiwan Contemporary Culture Lab @clab.tw and the Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) Sydney, are also celebrating being shortlisted for the Asia Pacific Arts Award - Innovation category - for our Physical Futures program, initiated and led by @themattcornell
Unending thanks go to all the artists involved across the years and everyone else who threw their skills and talents behind this ambitious partnership!
About the Physical Futures program:
For the last 5 years Critical Path and @clab.tw C-LAB have been working together to interrogate choreographic technology. This included exchanging artists and curators, working from each other’s headquarters and premiering new experimental live, physical and digital, performance and installation works in both countries.
The program extends to include our peers in other countries in the region, and an ongoing private wiki continues to archive the discourse of the artists and mentors - http://opentab.wiki
More details about the multiple programs and scores of artists that this partnership has brought together can be found at this link:

Sneek peek of first weeks in residency at the Rex Cramphorn studio creating a new work “BIO:MASS” - the 2nd in a trilogy of dance works led by M@ Cornell that centre our physical futures. BIO:MASS brings together choreography, cinema techniques and bio-material design, revealing yet-to-emerge but soon-to-be-necessary human physicalities.

#人物訪談 @themattmosphere
Matt Cornell - “2022-ongoing TAIWAN-AUSTRALIA CHOREOGRAPHY/TECHNOLOGY EXCHANGE PROGRAM” host, digital artist/curator from “Critical Path” - Centre for Choreography Research and Development in Sydney.
2022-ongoing TAIWAN AND AUSTRALIA CHOREOGRAPHY/TECHNOLOGY EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Taiwan Contemporary Culture Laboratory is co-hosted with Sydney’s Critical Path and the Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Sydney to enable Taiwanese and Australian future media artists and choreographers to experiment in scientific and technological arts, and performing arts, as well as share resources to help artists explore the future possibilities of physical and embodied future.
This program allows choreographic focused artists to explore choreography as a technology, its reshaping of the individual and social body, and the reshaping of shared culture and space.
Choreographic focused artists are particularly well placed to interrogate the fallout of our chronic digital condition on the body, togetherness, and community. It is not technological breakthrough alone but the cultural innovation leveraging these new possibilities that shape the world.
Choreography is advanced through this partnership by considered and playful mis-use of the tools of our time. Not to replace but to expand the body, to augment our reach and ability to connect, to deepen discourse through friendship, to re-enchant digital apparatus, and to rigorously interrogate “digital” as our dominant cultural metaphor, since even a “digital future” will also be a physical one.

This is M@ Cornell (@themattmosphere )!
M@ is currently in residency at Testing Grounds as part of an All School EXCHANGE – a program designed to bring artists together from across different states and territories to share practice and ideas.
His studio practice involves loud music and dancing - dancing being the medium he uses to deal with his career-long question - "What is what we're doing, doing back to us?".
Through dancing with others, physicalities are born. These physicalities become a basis for sci-fi worlding, and these worlds give a context for the construction of choreography.
He is passionate about building new works through collaboration across our home archipelago, and across forms, prioritising the working and iteration of materials directly (rather than via description or other proxies) towards epiphany.
His practise involves specifying context and giving special consideration to human-machine interfaces, especially how they write themselves back into human bodies (and thinking) with each use.
Since 2022 馬特 has regularly worked from C-LAB (臺灣當代文化實驗場) in Taipei as a curator interrogating choreography as a technology.
M@ was involved in the (2023) Sydney Opera House digital festival, delivering a panel titled “Where is the body? What is the Venue?” and hosting a discussion on digital choreography. Matt also authored the curatorial framework for digital programming at Next Wave titled “Beyond Post-Digital” (2021).
Throughout the residency, M@ will dance, building Sci-Fi choreographies and texts through his speculative-physical-futuring process. Nasim Patel (@nasimulacrum ) will join M@ in the studio for dancing. Antony Hamilton will also join M@ in the studio with a focus on methods and case studies of choreographic construction.

This week and next I am enjoying the absolute privilige of being hosted by @next_wave for an #AllSchoolsExchange artists residency alongside inspiring artist and friend @___titanbaker___ Tiyan Baker.
We’ll be in residence together, and seperately, at @testinggrounds , in a Venn diagram kind of overlap, working through shared interests of tropical Australia’s home within the Malay archipelago, our perpetually uncentered equator, and multi-generational experience of produce growers and transporters.
We’ll also be exchanging with local artists Antony Hamilton, @nasimulacrum Nasim Patel and James Nguyen respectively.
I’m open to studio visits or receiving related memes - DM me ! 🕺
