Forever grateful for all the performers, audience, and volunteers that came out for the inaugural Backstage Access show! When weāre dreaming up the event, the question goes from āAre people going to show up?ā to āHow are we going to fit everyone?ā Yāall showed up and packed the house!
Backstage Access was born out of a personal need to have a community, to not feel alone, and to put accessibility at the center. Everyone could come without worrying about whether they could get into the room or have their accommodation needs met. We now know that there is a strong sense of community in Dallas. Backstage Access was made possible by @dallasculture
We had an incredible lineup of live performances and a visual art gallery:Ā
Katie Ripley @katiemripley
Allison Lopez @b00ll00n

The greatest honor in my life and my career happened when I consulted on Wish. Disneyās 100 animated movie features a character named Dahlia. The main characterās best friend, an amazing Baker, the leader of the group of friends and she so happens to use a crutch.
Never in my life did I think I would ever see an Asian Disabled Character in a Disney film. An Asian Disabled Character who used a mobility aid. I never thought Iād see the major facets of my identity be represented on screen. If little Maddy had seen this, maybe it wouldnāt have taken so long for me to actually use a Walker. The red carpet is the first time Iāve used my walker at a Hollywood event. More importantly,. Dahlia is for all the little disabled girls today. Such a dream come true. I am forever. Grateful and thankful for this opportunity.
Wish is out now! Go see Wish! Go see an Asian Disabled Character authentically casted and represented. Jennifer Kumiyama did an amazing job! If you stay long enough, you might see my name. šš¼
PS. Two weeks ago I flew to Los Angeles to attend the premiere with the amazing @ericamones@vanni.pack and rest of the incredible team!

Look Mom! I made it!
My interview with @dfw_arts_maven for @keratxarts and @dallasnews is live! All of my intersectional identities and the importance of representation are at center stage. I could talk about Wish all day thanks to @disabilitybelongs Check it out!
Itās been a journey. The theme of the year is being who little Maddy wanted to see.

Just wrapped up the saga of my wheelchair getting damaged by airlines. Thankful for the speedy repair. Hopefully, itās smooth sailing from here. Wheelchair users deserve better than this.

My cat Leo is 10 today!
As the Crazy cat lady I am: I have to show off the last decade of his life. Together, we have moved to three states. Six apartments, gone through a pandemic, have so many health issues, and truly grown up together.
Anyone who has known me in the last 10 years has had to hear about how much I love my three legged cat relentlessly.
Edit add my Brake is loose and thatās the part thatās going to get replaced hopefully Itās been a long dayā¦. it was only the second time Iāve Iāve had to gate check it when traveling by myself. People donāt understand how expensive a wheelchair really is. It truly truly raises my quality of life.

Well, my worst fear came true. My wheelchair was damaged when I got it back from a flight
Luckily, itās minor damage and I can still use it.
Made a claim and hopefully theyāre going to replace it.
34 Wheelchairs are damaged daily by airlines.
Itās devastating and Iām so angry.

This week I talk with Maddy Ullman who is a disabled film consultant, advocate, and storyteller! She shares her journey so far which includes living with Cerebral Palsy and Type 1 Diabetes as a self defined ādisability cocktailā.
Maddy also talks about her work with Disney as a disability consultant for the movie āWishā in which there is an Asian American character with a mobility aide. This led us into the progress that film inclusion efforts have made and the continued shortcomings of the field.
Thank you so much to Maddy for being my guest and āliving for the plotā! You havenāt seen the last of Maddy on The TyePod š
Next weekās episode will feature Rheanna Nutter, @TheChronicCEO !
Catch new episodes on Friday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube! If you are part of the disability community (any part!) and are interested in a guest appearance, please DM @Dr.TyeDMartin on Instagram!
