Forever grateful for all the performers, audience, and volunteers that came out for the inaugural Backstage Access show! When we’re dreaming up the event, the question goes from ā€œAre people going to show up?ā€ to ā€œHow are we going to fit everyone?ā€ Y’all showed up and packed the house! Backstage Access was born out of a personal need to have a community, to not feel alone, and to put accessibility at the center. Everyone could come without worrying about whether they could get into the room or have their accommodation needs met. We now know that there is a strong sense of community in Dallas. Backstage Access was made possible by @dallasculture We had an incredible lineup of live performances and a visual art gallery:Ā  Katie Ripley @katiemripley Allison Lopez @b00ll00n Grace Nova @thegracenova Leigha Sanderson @leigha.sanderson Brandon Maahs @brandonmaahs Valois Vera @criplyrical Amy Wang HIller @thrive_on_wheels @amywangviolin Elijah @sharonza_artspace Rebekah Covington afinitelyrebekah.com Caroline Gharis @carolines_and_dots Jackie Robinson @polingwithcp Maddy Ullman Aaron Adair Colin Adair Leonardo Perez Michael Goodman Laird Thompson Evelyn Davis We can’t wait to do more! Special thanks to: @dallasculture @jorenzo_ma @curtisyshots @dallasmediacompany @potatollamadog1 @paulnilrach @talexh1 @meg.n.ripley ID in comments #accessibilityforall #backstageaccessdallas #disabledartist #inclusiveevents #artist

The greatest honor in my life and my career happened when I consulted on Wish. Disney’s 100 animated movie features a character named Dahlia. The main character’s best friend, an amazing Baker, the leader of the group of friends and she so happens to use a crutch. Never in my life did I think I would ever see an Asian Disabled Character in a Disney film. An Asian Disabled Character who used a mobility aid. I never thought I’d see the major facets of my identity be represented on screen. If little Maddy had seen this, maybe it wouldn’t have taken so long for me to actually use a Walker. The red carpet is the first time I’ve used my walker at a Hollywood event. More importantly,. Dahlia is for all the little disabled girls today. Such a dream come true. I am forever. Grateful and thankful for this opportunity. Wish is out now! Go see Wish! Go see an Asian Disabled Character authentically casted and represented. Jennifer Kumiyama did an amazing job! If you stay long enough, you might see my name. šŸ™šŸ¼ PS. Two weeks ago I flew to Los Angeles to attend the premiere with the amazing @ericamones @vanni.pack and rest of the incredible team! #disneywish #disabled #disneymovie #star #disabledandcute #asianamerican #asianamericanartist #disablityrepresentation #disabilityawareness #redcarpet #moviepremiere #wishdisneymovie #creative #themaddyullman

Just wrapped up the saga of my wheelchair getting damaged by airlines. Thankful for the speedy repair. Hopefully, it’s smooth sailing from here. Wheelchair users deserve better than this. #wheelchair #accessibilitymatters

My cat Leo is 10 today! As the Crazy cat lady I am: I have to show off the last decade of his life. Together, we have moved to three states. Six apartments, gone through a pandemic, have so many health issues, and truly grown up together. Anyone who has known me in the last 10 years has had to hear about how much I love my three legged cat relentlessly.

Edit add my Brake is loose and that’s the part that’s going to get replaced hopefully It’s been a long day…. it was only the second time I’ve I’ve had to gate check it when traveling by myself. People don’t understand how expensive a wheelchair really is. It truly truly raises my quality of life. ID Threads text box Well, my worst fear came true. My wheelchair was damaged when I got it back from a flight Luckily, it’s minor damage and I can still use it. Made a claim and hopefully they’re going to replace it. 34 Wheelchairs are damaged daily by airlines. It’s devastating and I’m so angry. #accessible #airlines #wheelchair

This week I talk with Maddy Ullman who is a disabled film consultant, advocate, and storyteller! She shares her journey so far which includes living with Cerebral Palsy and Type 1 Diabetes as a self defined ā€œdisability cocktailā€. Maddy also talks about her work with Disney as a disability consultant for the movie ā€œWishā€ in which there is an Asian American character with a mobility aide. This led us into the progress that film inclusion efforts have made and the continued shortcomings of the field. Thank you so much to Maddy for being my guest and ā€œliving for the plotā€! You haven’t seen the last of Maddy on The TyePod šŸ˜‰ Next week’s episode will feature Rheanna Nutter, @TheChronicCEO ! Catch new episodes on Friday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube! If you are part of the disability community (any part!) and are interested in a guest appearance, please DM @Dr.TyeDMartin on Instagram! - Your friendly neighborhood PhD #DisabilityAdvocacy #PodcastCommunity #ChronicIllness

For a few years, I have had the honor of being on the board of @kupendaforthechildren . An organization that works hand-in-hand with a nonprofit in Kenya to provide medical support, scholarships, and disability awareness for families with children with disabilities. Not only are they doing that but they are actively advocating for people with disabilities all over the world. In honor of women’s history month. I contributed to Kupenda’s blog. Meeting Cynthia the founder of Kupenda change my life forever and I am so grateful. Check out Kupenda and the powerful impact they have in the world. go to the link to my bio to read more!
