It’s been a year since I solo-produced an event, but over the past few months I’ve felt deeply called to bring this to life. As a first-generation Colombian and Mexican in this country, I feel an urgency to do at least a little of what I can by utilizing my passion for curating.
On May 28th bringing New York friends from different cultural backgrounds from all boroughs to come together as one to raise funds for families that have been displaced by ICE.
Chose a local community venue that allowed me and gave me a space to curate when I first moved from uptown to Brooklyn. A space that I always see my people come together to also curate or release through community & dance. Thursday, May 28th “We are one” will be at Rebecca’s at 9pm.
Ticketed donations will 100% go to chip in for the cause to support our people because if we all do a little a little can go a long way 🤝
Donations will go to @immdefense a nonprofit that provides legal support, advocacy, and fights to interrupt mass deportation.

Let me tell you about my gateway genre into electronic music it’ssss ghettotech 🔊⚡️
The teacher in me couldn’t help creating one of these as my last reel of this set ✨
During a show at @elsewherespace I experienced a set by @djgodfatherdetroit at a @zackfox takeover and it opened up mind to one of my fave genres.
Ghettotech “the indigenous music of Detroit” a high-energy electronic music genre born in Detroit during the late 1980s/early 1990s, blending Detroit techno, Miami bass, Chicago house, and hip-hop. It is a dance-centric style often associated with Jit dancing and Detroit club culture.
Makes sense why I would love it being raised uptown with its rich hip hop history and being exposed to turntablisim first in my DJ journey. Ghettotech was bred from mixing Detroit classics with the latest dance sounds and accelerated at 45 RPM. Each track, introduced after a zig-zag of scratches and beat juggles.
The first ghettotech records were inspired by the way local radio and club DJs mixed, where 2 Live Crew and other rap records were tossed over accelerated techno and electro. Once DJ Assault and DJ Godfather realized these blends could work as standalone records, they made them.
I really loved how the song “It’s Ghetto Tech” by @djgodfatherdetroit@dandiamondmusic story told its history. This was the track that had me literally booty shaking during his set 🔊⚡️
Also featured another classic “Shake what yo momma gave ya” by @realdjdeeon
Ghettotech is really a product of DJing & that’s it for my long winded story time 👩🏽💻
