La Mousmé, 2023.
This year, as a gift, I made my own study of “La Mousmé,” a painting by Van Gogh from 1888, with Z as the subject. I’ve had a print of this piece in my place for years and was always struck by the resemblance b/t the subject and Z - so this was a great opportunity for me to make a personal gesture out of an homage to one of my favorite artists.
Van Gogh wrote of this painting and the series it’s from as "the only thing in painting that excites me to the depths of my soul, and which makes me feel the infinite more than anything else." I’m really inspired by this feeling & ethos of “soul-work”, and this meditation on intention was the perfect exercise to open myself up to allow for more meaningful & passionate work.
