Across very different landscapes, the same questions emerge.
As part of a CEO exchange between two Long Run Global Ecosphere RetreatsÂŽ, Andrew Dixon and Louise Cottar reflect on what responsible stewardship really looks like.
At Cottar's Safaris, the focus is people, culture, and long-term conservation in the Maasai Mara. At @nikoiisland and @cempedakisland , it's the daily reality of protecting fragile islands and marine ecosystems against the pressure of nearby industrialisation.
Different landscapes. Shared purpose: protecting what allows wild places to endure.
Enduata is built on a solid partnership between Tanzanian guide Michael Shayo and British hospitality entrepreneur Matt Wilkey. The pair met when Michael guided Mattâs family on safari. What started as an exchange of texts over WhatsApp evolved into an ambitious business plan to build lodges that would give back to both people and wildlife.
Welcome to The Long Run communityđ
âIn the early days of Aracari, we sought out people and places that werenât yet part of the tourism landscape: communities tucked into the Andes, artisans working without markets, local guides with deep knowledge but no platform. These werenât polished experiences built for visitors. They were real lives. We went back to these rural communities, year after year. People saw we were serious. Thatâs what builds credibility.
What gives me the most satisfaction is seeing how some of our partnersâ children go to university, speak perfect English, and have futures their parents couldnât imagine. Thatâs what tourism can do when itâs done right.â - Marisol Mosquera, Founder of @aracaritravel
Welcome to The Long Run community, Aracari Travelđ
In April, Andrew swapped island life for the Maasai Mara, joining @cottars.safaris as part of a CEO swap between our @thelongrunorg Global Ecosphere RetreatsÂŽ.
First week in, and instead of tides and boat schedules, he was learning about wildlife drives and bush logistics with his new team. His main takeaway? Different surroundings but familiar people - warm, welcoming and proud of what they do.
In April, Louise swapped the Maasai Mara for the islands of @nikoiisland and @cempedakisland in Indonesia - a month-long CEO exchange between two of the 12 properties worldwide accredited as Global Ecosphere Retreats by @thelongrunorg .
Embedded within the team rather than visiting as a guest, this first chapter captures her early days: listening, observing, and learning how a very different operation approaches the shared work of regenerative tourism.
Weâre in Cape Town for @weareafricatravel ! What a treat.
Our Head of Brand and Marketing, Rosie Stubbs, will moderate the Open House Cabana discussion: âAre we failing the guest? If purpose matters, why isnât it converting?â
Alongside Julie Cheetham (CEO, Travalyst), Paul de Waal (Founder & CEO, @wetu.tourism ), and Zukiso Makalima (Head of Sales, @tswalu )
If you or a colleague are going, let us know.
Can you believe these photos are real?
@willbl , an award-winning photographer and long-time friend of our members Salaâs Camp @thesafaricollection , set up a camera trap in a secluded, hard-to-monitor area of the Maasai Mara.
The surprises it revealed sent a burst of excitement through the WhatsApp groups.
As Will put it: âWhat I loved most about this project was the way it sat at the intersection of storytelling and practical conservation. The images sit within a much bigger effort to understand and protect one of Kenyaâs most important black rhino populations.â
Made possible in partnership with @maasaimara_nationalreserve , @thesafaricollection and the Maasai Mara Rhino Unit.
Tomorrowâs Go Birding Day. The message is wildly simple: put down your phone, go outside and find some birds!

This yearâs WanderSleeps selection showcases the best of the best places to rest your head across the world.
I couldnât be happier to see @caimanpantanal & @laparioscr in the Responsible Sleeps category, but they arenât just âdo good conservationistsâ these hotels are seriously luxurious and indulgent, but they have the bonus of being located in the heart of the natural world and stays here are mana for the soul.
Both lodges are also founder members of @thelongrunorg
Choose your travel wisely! đ§
