• ENDPAPER REVEAL • I am overjoyed that my renaissance loving heart finally gets to share these endpaper illustrations for @fairyloot Exclusive Edition of “Graceless Heart” by Isabel Ibañez. I dearly love and admire @isabelibanezbooks with all my heart, so getting to be a part of a project for one of her captivating books last year was a joy and a wonderful challenge for myself! ♥️ ——————————— You might have noticed this by now🤭, but I am always inspired by architectural ornaments and historical motives. And working with Italian renaissance? 🏛️ Oh you don’t have to ask me twice! I spent a good one week studying sculptures and architectures, practicing natural and geometrical band motives to get as close to the original inspiration of 15th-century renaissance elements as possible. I am most delighted to share the cover for @mararutherfordwrites ‘s “My Unfamiliar”, that I illustrated under the kind and most gentle guidance of @wednesdaybooks ‘s Art Director @kerriresnick . 🤍 What a dream project it was! For me especially, as I dived into this cozy world, filled with animals and cottage core aesthetics! 🌱 I got to revisit my most fond memories of reading Brambly Hedge and Beatrix Potter’s stories when I was younger, 🦔 and just as eagerly hoped to fill this cover with the same feeling of warmth and comfort as these classics. ✨ It would of course not be possible without Kerri and Mara, who always made sure to let me know how much they appreciated everything at every step of the way. ♥️ Thank you everyone involved in this project, for putting your faith into me. I’m madly excited to show you the full character art for These Shattered Spires, a gothic fantasy with undead nuns and curses galore. Taro, Nixie, Alix, and Elliot were brought to life by the wondrous @thelolloco who took every detail about these toxic weirdos and turned them into these AMAZING portraits. 🦴 Taro, a bone arcanist who draws power from skeletal remains, is a sarcastic ultragoth who revels in her abilities and happily covers herself in bone regalia. Here you can see her in a ribcage corset, with bones up her arms and slicked-back hair that makes her look like a beetle. (Hot.) 🍃 Nixie is a botanic arcanist, and as someone who draws power from plants, she has been drawn with lots of nods to her discipline: wrist sheathes like gardening gloves, super-detailed floral embroidery, and the calm gaze typical of poison-lovers (and chronic overachievers). 📕 Alix is a former stone arcanist and current library-dweller. As someone right at the bottom of the ladder Alix’s clothes are fairly minimalistic, with a touch of neo-brutalism. I love that you can see their binding under their clothing, and their pencil, which doubles as a weapon. 🩸 Lastly we have Elliot, a blood disciple whose lavish portrait includes a velvet jacket embroidered with jewelled blood and my favourite detail - a bleeding sword-pierced heart at his collar. (Zoom in, it’s glorious.) The smirk on his face is just right; he’s always very pleased with himself. I was already excited when the sketches came in, but when the full colour art turned up I was genuinely shocked by how well everything had been captured. I feel very lucky to have had such an amazing artist for these portraits. They also appear (in black and white) in the front of the book, alongside a super-detailed map of the Desecrae by @virginiaallyn and of course the amazingly dramatic cover by @danlinz_art ! These Shattered Spires, the first installment in the gothic fantasy trilogy Wyrdos, is out with Bloomsbury worldwide on March 10th. • The Girl, the Book and the Secret it holds • ——————————————————— • BY HUMAN FOR HUMANS It all started with a simple idea, but the more I worked on it, the more I pushed myself to try and see what I could achieve with my “more is more” mindset. In the end, it took over a year on-and-off to finish. There are a 1000+ little manual strokes in each shot. Everything I could possibly animate and everything I could possibly paint…I did absolutely everything my mindful, but chaotic heart told me to.🙂‍↕️☺️ And this is what art is, isn’t it? The challenge and the beauty of figuring it out to create something one of its kind, even if it is a 10 second little animation. And In short this is what art by humans for humans means. 🤍 Hopefully this will bring you a sense of awe, or perhaps peace or maybe inspiration 🪄☺️ anything that could make your life even a tiny little bit more whimsical and beautiful. • THIS IS JUST A FRAGMENT The concept and story behind this has been patiently waiting in the depths of my heart ever since I became Lolloco.
