This years @cherryblossfest Student Art Showcase led me to Payne Elementary School.
I had an AMAZING time with these students. I worked with well over 100 students to bring this mural together. The best part is...it was absolutely STUDENT DRIVEN. The students collaborated to make this a success.
From the ideation process to the final product, it was student led. I literally was just the facilitator. "Let's do this," "I think we should add this here." The students took charge, and that's what it's all about. It belongs to them...to their school community. This is something that they will appreciate for years to come.
We chose a mixed media theme by incorporating 3D aspects into our art piece. Each student made their own cherry blossom with a goal of achieving 130 to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the school. 🌸 I also loved using the pages of @washinformer to create our 3D tree. It was a way to weave a piece of DC into the piece.
Shoutout to one of the best art teachers in DCPS, Ms. Harvey! We made a great team. 💕
I'm forever grateful that God continues to use me to teach the children. 😊

I got a phone call Friday night asking if I'd like to ride on a float for the National Cherry Blossom Parade. @cherryblossfest
Of course I would! 😊 I've never ridden on a parade float before. So, the first thing that crossed my mind was..."What will I wear?"
My thoughts: Earrings first, the rest later. Ran to get me some clay and freestyle these Peculiar Blossom Earrings.
I love how they turned out. They were a conversation piece. I'm so glad I made them! 🎨🌸
