Happy Friday! It’s a glorious day, the sun is out and we are welcoming back an old friend. Witbier. Our Witbier, 4% is based on the Belgian style. In addition to wheat and oats in the mash, we've used Indian Coriander and dried Orange Peel from our friends at @spicemountainuk and some fresh Italian Orange Peel from @spaterminus Greengrocer lovingly hand peeled by Jonah. Finally, a light Amarillo dip-hop to round out the flavours. The beer is both intense and refined, it smells particularly aromatic, the coriander and orange peel come through strongly, with sweeter notes from the wheat the yeast character. But, once in your mouth, those bolder smells seem more humble & harmonious. The beer's lighter, spritzy carbonation enhances the experience. Of course there are hints of bitter orange and coriander seeds, mineral flavours and earthy tones float by. It's both soft and bright, delicate yet decisive, and so very smashable. Interestingly, there are some pretty unique differences between the keg and bottle formats. The aroma coming from the bottle is sweeter and fruitier and the yeast character more noticeable, while the keg tends more heavily toward the complex spice notes. The condition on the bottle gives a creamier mouthfeel and gives better access to the fruit flavours, whereas the kegs lighter carbonation leads to that more minerally texture and pronounced yeast character. In the words of The Kernel Team, who have been loving this beer so very much, “Oh it’s so good!” and “So scrummy!”. Our Witbier, is perfect for the warmer weather and is available at @thekernelsparoad as well as online now Enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Friday! This week we are highlighting the return of East India Pale Ale - London 1897 5.8%, a beer that proved hugely popular last year. Based on a Fuller’s recipe from 1897. While London was the point of origin of the East India Pale Ale, by this time it was no longer the centre of the production of pale beers bound for India (this had moved to Burton). We chose a London recipe, as that is who we are, and it appeals to us to try to connect once again with London’s brewing history, this time to situate IPAs once again within the city's brewing lineage. This year we’ve brewed the beer with Ernest hops, a modern English variety with a distinctly British character — hedgerow fruit, soft citrus and a little spice. Bright, bitter, and built for drinking. Our East India Pale Ale - London 1897 is available from our Online Shop now and will be pouring at @thekernelsparoad from next week.

Introducing our latest collaboration, the Single Stout - 6.4% with @boundarybrewing In mid 2025 we were invited by Boundary to brew a beer with them to help celebrate their 10th birthday, which was an Export Stout.  This January we asked them over to London for a return leg, and brewed this Single Stout (otherwise known as Porter). We decided that we wanted to make an historic Irish Stout and found a recipe from1883 that fit the bill. With just Pale, Amber and Black malts it is dry, toasted and fruit forward. Plummy flavours, with a burnt toastfinish, on a body much lighter and more refreshing than our regular core porters. One of the quirks of this recipe is the addition of some black malt to the boil and it has come through beautifully, giving the beer an almost maple syrup aroma, and a dry wood tannin-like follow through. We will be featuring this beer alongside others from Boundary Brewery at a Tap Take over in our @thekernelsparoad Road Venue on Wednesday 4th March. And is available from our Online Shop now.

It's no secret that we're quite fond of Eclipse, with its flavours reminiscent of the early days of American IPA's, citrus & tropicals fruits, wood & pine, bitterness & lots of aroma. With that in mind, this week, we bring you two new beers that showcase this fantastic hop; the Pale Ale - Eclipse 5.5% and the India Pale Ale - Eclipse 6.9% In the Pale Ale you're hit instantly with notes of guava and touches of other tropical fruits. The aroma is very clean and fruity without the expected pine, lightly zesty in the mouth, orange and mandarin, with a dry, woody finish. We find the flavours to be direct and focused without tangents or unusual deviations. It's somewhat poised and doesn't overextend its reach. In the IPA the aroma feels more muted and homogenised at first, you get a touch of flint and jam. Tastes of orange, caramelised citrus, with a pithy and tannic finish. Like the pale, flavours aren't too tangential, we find a narrow range of flavours that feels clean and concise. Both beers are available on our Online Shop now and from @thekernelsparoad from Wednesday.
