Happy Friday! This week we are very excited to share the next instalment in our single hop series, this time we are showcasing Krush. First up the Pale Ale, Krush 5.4% The smell on this Pale Ale is absolutely divine, we get a lot of bright zesty fruits, mandarin, pineapple, orange, a bit of grass, a hint of forest, and sweets dominate. It tastes wonderful, too, with flavours of melon and sherbet, Krush seems to articulate a bit of sweet-bread in the malt body. It finishes more gently and with less bitterness than our Pale Ale's typically do. Rounding out the Krush series is India Pale Ale, Krush 7.1% The differences between the Pale and the India Pale Ale are quite broad. On the nose, more pulpy, dank, tropical notes come through, mango, passionfruit. The taste somewhat matches the aroma with a more round, rich and sticky fruit flavours. We expect this beer to open up with some more complexity, nuance and gentler flavours in the coming weeks. Like the pale, it finishes a touch sweeter than our beers typically tend, but the additional hops bring a bit more of a classic, Kernel bitterness. Both of these beers are available on our Online Shop now (link in bio) and at @thekernelsparoad from this coming Wednesday. Enjoy the weekend!

Happy Friday! It’s a glorious day, the sun is out and we are welcoming back an old friend. Witbier. Our Witbier, 4% is based on the Belgian style. In addition to wheat and oats in the mash, we've used Indian Coriander and dried Orange Peel from our friends at @spicemountainuk and some fresh Italian Orange Peel from @spaterminus Greengrocer lovingly hand peeled by Jonah. Finally, a light Amarillo dip-hop to round out the flavours. The beer is both intense and refined, it smells particularly aromatic, the coriander and orange peel come through strongly, with sweeter notes from the wheat the yeast character. But, once in your mouth, those bolder smells seem more humble & harmonious. The beer's lighter, spritzy carbonation enhances the experience. Of course there are hints of bitter orange and coriander seeds, mineral flavours and earthy tones float by. It's both soft and bright, delicate yet decisive, and so very smashable. Interestingly, there are some pretty unique differences between the keg and bottle formats. The aroma coming from the bottle is sweeter and fruitier and the yeast character more noticeable, while the keg tends more heavily toward the complex spice notes. The condition on the bottle gives a creamier mouthfeel and gives better access to the fruit flavours, whereas the kegs lighter carbonation leads to that more minerally texture and pronounced yeast character. In the words of The Kernel Team, who have been loving this beer so very much, “Oh it’s so good!” and “So scrummy!”. Our Witbier, is perfect for the warmer weather and is available at @thekernelsparoad as well as online now Enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Friday! We are going to keep it short and sweet this week because the sun is shining, people are smiling and it really is starting to feel like beers in the park weather. We feel like there are so many of our beers that are ideal for this weather (yes, we are biased). But the Table Beer, which is lighter in alcohol but full in flavour and our beautifully crisp helles-style Lagerbier are really the perfect duo. Both of these beers are available at our online shop, look for The Sunshine Box for an easier checkout experience. As well as at @thekernelsparoad , both in bottle and on draught. That’s all folks, go enjoy the sunshine and have a great weekend.

Happy Friday! With the rumour of sunshine this weekend we felt it was only right that we should talk about Lager. First up and fresh off of the bottling line is our Lagerbier. This is our take on a traditional pale lager: soft, floral, and clean. To keep things focused and balanced we’ve only used a single malt, Pale Maris Otter and a single hop, Huell Melon. Lagered for at least six weeks. No rush. Just time, temperature, and attention. The result is dry and very clean, with subtle herbal and floral notes, a gentle spiciness on the palate, and a light sweetness from the yeast and malt. If you’re after something a little different but equally as refreshing, our Dunkel is the perfect option. A traditional Munich-style dark lager, unfiltered to retain its rich malt character. Brewed with Vienna, Pale Maris Otter, Amber, Chocolate, and Carafa Spezial 3 malts, it offers a deep amber-brown hue and a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel. The addition of Mandarina Bavaria hops introduces a subtle citrus aroma, balancing the malt’s sweetness with notes of tangerine and orange. Both are available on our online store and at @thekernelsparoad now

Happy Friday! We hope you’ve been enjoying the sunshine this week, we certainly have. This week we have two new releases for you: Half Brick 4.4% and Running Porter 5%. First up is our seasonal beer brewed with rye; Half Brick. The smaller version of our London Brick - Red Rye Ale. The nose and first sip hit with a pretty specific tasting note: marmalade on lightly burnt hot crossed buns. Adding to the holiday flavours some Christmas-y spices float over the top. Instead of the sometimes dramatic or intense flavours we expect from rye, there is a little more nuance here. Some piney, American ale notes dominate, mixed with a gentle herbal spice and distant hints of oat biscuits. Those tasting notes might seem to suggest an incredibly complex beer, but they all present delicately and there is a creamy, soft and refined subtleness to the final product. Next is Running Porter. We wanted this beer to be a little lighter and fresher than the other porter recipes that we brew, to acknowledge its running nature, and to pair better with the territorial cheeses that inspired this collaboration. The beer leans into light cocoa, almost cola aromatics, with the herbal fruity hedgerow of Goldings and Bramling Cross. The body is refreshing, a touch of warmth, a touch of roast, a touch of tea-like tannins. It moves through a red-berry phase into a hazelnut / praline roundness, then a clean dry finish. Both beers are available on our Online Shop now.

Happy Friday! This week we’re talking about all things Strata. Our brewers have been hard at work crafting two specialised, single-hopped brews; Pale Ale Strata 5.2% and India Pale Ale Strata 6.9% First up is the Pale Ale which leans into the most distinctive classic ‘American’ flavours that are distinctive of Strata. You get a lot of citrus, a touch of pine, some ephemeral notes of sweets, with some woody, dry spices overtop. The texture of the beer is wonderful and compliments the whole experience. Despite Strata often bringing strong tropical and dank notes, the body is light, clean and spritz-y, softening those bolder flavours into something more distinctly grapefruit with only distant hints of cannabis or freshly cut grass. Next up, the India Pale Ale. The Strata presents itself a more as expected in an IPA, its dank with more pronounced passionfruit coming through. The tingle texture is present in the IPA, it’s exciting, sherbet like and perhaps in an immediately contemporary sense, a modern West Coast IPA. Not to be confused with the caramel-brown, sticky resinous West Coasts of the past two decades. This IPA is still dry with a solid bitterness, but it’s brighter, fresher and the aromas are more pronounced. Both of these beers are available on our Online Shop now (link in bio) and will be pouring at @thekernelsparoad thekernelsparoad from Wednesday. Have a great Bank Holiday Weekend!

Hello and happy Friday! This week we are talking about our annual take on a modern German style, the Hopfenweisse, which sees a wheaty base beer moderately dry hopped with Idaho 7 and sits in at 4.9%. There’s a tension here that we think works. The potential clash of the piney hop and the yeasty esters is avoided by a low late addition, which pulls the fruit without the resin and pairs well with sunshine, so we’ve timed it perfectly. You get notes of wheat, grass and hay beside citrus peel. A touch of coconut bounces through some hints of spice and orangy fruit flavours present throughout. The beer is very round with a full mouth feel and a long, dry yet sweet finish. You can find this on our Online Shop now and pouring at @thekernelsparoad from this coming Wednesday. Other beers of note that we are launching today are: The Running Porter, 5%, Strata Pale Ale, 5.3% and Strata India Pale Ale, 6.8% As well as the return of our Sunshine Box (we’re still holding out hope for some more sunny weather), this time consisting of 6 bottles of Table Beer 330ml and 6 bottles of Lagerbier 330ml. All of which are also listed on our Online Shop, link in the bio. Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday! This week we are highlighting the return of East India Pale Ale - London 1897 5.8%, a beer that proved hugely popular last year. Based on a Fuller’s recipe from 1897. While London was the point of origin of the East India Pale Ale, by this time it was no longer the centre of the production of pale beers bound for India (this had moved to Burton). We chose a London recipe, as that is who we are, and it appeals to us to try to connect once again with London’s brewing history, this time to situate IPAs once again within the city's brewing lineage. This year we’ve brewed the beer with Ernest hops, a modern English variety with a distinctly British character — hedgerow fruit, soft citrus and a little spice. Bright, bitter, and built for drinking. Our East India Pale Ale - London 1897 is available from our Online Shop now and will be pouring at @thekernelsparoad from next week.
