Happy Earth Day! Swipe through to see what’s possible when a community reimagines its space—from a one-acre parking lot to a neighborhood park.
In 2024,
@sunsetridgechurch transformed its underutilized asphalt parking lot into Charis Park, a green space designed for connection with nature and one another. What many experience today as a place of play and community began as a shared vision for how our campus could better serve our neighborhood.
That vision was shaped in partnership with
@theimpactguild ’s Good Acres initiative and brought to life by
@coralstudiosatx , with a deep commitment to sustainability. Rather than clearing and starting over, nearly all existing site materials—including asphalt and concrete curbs—were repurposed into the park’s design. Native and low-water plants, a dry creek bed, and a rain garden now work together to conserve water and reduce runoff into surrounding streets.
Charis Park is one expression of a broader commitment across Sunset Ridge Church to activate our campus for neighborhood flourishing—creating spaces that foster belonging, creativity, and care for the earth.
You’ll see that same spirit at work each week through the
@sunsetridgefarmersmarket , where farmers and neighbors gather around local food and practices rooted in regenerative agriculture.
Charis Park is owned by Sunset Ridge Church and operated by
@sunsetridgecollective , a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that serves as the missional expression of the church, and it remains privately funded as a gift to the community. If this space has meant something to you, consider joining the Friends of Charis Park to help sustain its care, programming, and long-term impact.
However this day is going for you, we hope you find a way to be grounded in the goodness of creation—maybe even with your feet in the grass.
