Hey everyone! I recently partnered up with
@dontloveittodeath to help people get more dialed for the backcountry, and safety in general :) I've gathered a few tips to help you look into my process and what I feel is important in terms of safety :):)
📚 I try to get at least 1 supporting course in a year. This could be anywhere from first aid, to
@avalanchecanada courses, to working with a local guide.
🏔️ I highly recommend Avalanche Operations 1, I did this a few years ago, and my confidence increased tenfold, not to mention this is one of the steps to becoming a patroller.
⁉️ Before I go out, I always look at the avalanche forecast for the day in my area. And talk with local friends, read local threads to understand what we're standing on with our skis in terms of snowpack. If you need some resources please reach out :)
🌨️ Knowing your ability ~ this is huge! If you're not comfortable on skis, snowboards in variable conditions, it's probably not a good idea to be wandering into the back country. Try to hone your skills on resort, where you don't put others in risk :)
ALSO - Don't Love it to Death is an amazing reminder to be a respectful and mindful adventurer out there! ❤️
That's all I have for now and stoked to continue the discussion here on in the dms :)
