After the ceremony is complete, Kaitlyn will hold space for a Death Salon where participants will be invited to reflect alone or in community. Return home to your inner light at our next Living Funeral Ceremony followed by a Death Salon at slow body somatics. A Living Funeral Ceremony is an immersive meditative experience that encourages participants to face their own mortality. Through engaging in ritual and guidance through a death visualization–contemplating your own memorial as you imagine letting go of your earthly self–participants are invited to ā€œdie before you die, to live while you’re alive.ā€ This ceremonial experience provides a safe and supportive space to confront fears around death and impermanence, while also fostering a deeper connection to life’s fragility and beauty. Often compared to the experience of ego death, this ritual leaves many with a renewed sense of purpose and a profound appreciation for the present moment. The ritual portion takes up to 90 minutes. After the ceremony is complete, Kaitlyn will hold space for a Death Salon where participants will be invited to reflect alone or in community, support our food vendor, The Fool Bakery, and gently reintegrate until 10pm. Sliding scale pricing Limited capacity Link in bio xx

Magic Pizza Pie 🌈 I was stuck in a rut trying to think of how to apply this delicious jam from @jazzy__jams to a pastry. For weeks my mind felt unyielding… it kept saying ā€œput it in a scone,ā€ but I fought hard to come up with something else… It feels like I went on a brief journey and the pieces came together in a way that only time will permit when they can finally fuse to reveal the big picture. So I came up with a pizza galette. I was fortunate enough to attend a galette demo by @kondofuyuko a few weeks ago and to her I owe this perfectly flaky pie crust recipe. It’s layered with pizza sauce, mozzarella, roasted jalapeƱos, @jazzy__jams ā€˜s delicious PMS (pineapple, mango, serrano pepper) jam jam, topped with cotija cheese, basil from the longest living basil plant I’ve managed to keep alive, enveloped in a memory of my brother’s weird, delicious mango habanero pizza from some months ago and my forever favorite pizza topping- pineapple, an ode to a happy childhood memory of tasting Hawaiian pizza for the first time at the age of 9 in Venice Beach. You can try this on Saturday, August 23 from 3-7pm at Gaycuterie located @solarcbrewing in Glassell Park! 🌈🌈🌈 Also shoutout to @jeeter for the added help and thank you, Sun, for the perfect golden hour lighting.

Basque cheesecake (Drone Logic by Daniel Avery, Harvey McKay re-edit remix) I got sick last year and, after coming out of a two week torpor, I made myself a Basque cheesecake when I got my tastebuds back. It became an added love to a long list of loves. This went through 3 iterations in addition to figuring out technical factors like oven temperature, rest time, and finding the sweet spot in the oven before getting it to look this sensually burnt. I make this for every Sunday’s Silver Lake Reservoir popup. Probably won’t be able to make this much longer because it’ll become too hot for this to live through the heat without melting, but I’m still down to make it if anyone would like me to. I personally prefer eating it at room temperature, but room temp could very well reach the 90’s soon. Tip: bake it on the top rack and let it sit for an hour undisturbed after taking it out of the oven to give it time to set, otherwise it’ll deflate. Some goods are sensitive like that. #baking #basquecheesecake #cheesecake #electronic

I haven’t been great with social media lately. Too much insanity and ambiguity as of late, but at least it’s been a bit warmer and my limbs have thawed, so I can bake with more ease again. I’ve revisited my sourdough recipe that’s 90% complete. Still needs some minor tweaks, but it’s nearly there. There’s only so much bread I can eat, so it’s taking awhile, but each loaf is progress. I’ve switched up my flour mix so this has better nutritional value and, with more bran in the dough, it also benefits the flavor. It’s great for toasts and sandwiches (and in general). I’ve also figured out how to be more attentive and patient with my dough, so at 84% hydration (flour : water = 100 : 84) it’s got a softer crumb, but still holds up well when toasted. 100% fully leavened by Deedee.

I worked at @pumakawareserva in Córdoba, Argentina for 11 days as a volunteer surrounded by beautiful animals who are beyond rehabilitation to be released back into the wild, also some rescues from people who couldn’t keep them as pets anymore, and some retired from labor. How lucky was I to get to hug a donkey every morning 🄹 and say hi to the jotes, chimangos, Rosaura the little horse, the beautiful pumas, and even the llamas that bully each other. I didn’t think I’d be baking at all, but even more luck for me everyone there had a sweet tooth and I had everything I needed even though I felt I was lacking at the time. The simplicity of living there made me realize I didn’t need all these extra things. I didn’t need a scale or measuring tools or a thermometer… they’re just gadgets. Being there let me trust myself more. I used my eyeballs and my hands as a scale and the heat on my skin as a thermometer. I chopped my own wood and built my own fire (it’s a wood fire oven). Like hell yeah! It’s awesome to know you can do without or to just be able to DO something. My Spanish was terrible, but one way to communicate no matter where you are is through food. Baking was my way of showing I cared. I had also never used a wood fire oven before, so I felt really ungrounded, but it all worked out and I’m proud of myself! Wood fire egg tarts Wood fire medialunas Wood fire crinkle cookies Wood fire sourdough bread made with Deedee Wood fire Adela, my heart ā¤ļø Deedee, my other heart.
