Today, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that a Colorado state law protecting LGBTQ+ young people from the dangerous, discredited practice of conversion therapy must be revisited in the name of “free speech.” This ruling is about how conversion therapy can be regulated, not about whether it is safe or legal. It isn’t. Conversion therapy is malpractice. Plain and simple. Regardless of the ruling, survivors still have legal options to fight back against the harms of conversion therapy, including consumer fraud claims, medical malpractice, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. This is not the outcome that young people deserve, but we are already working with a coalition of organizations, allies, and advocates on new, impactful ways to continue fighting against these dangerous practices – regardless of the ruling. Join us by signing our petition to tell your lawmakers that conversion therapy has no place in your community → Trvr.org/StopConversionTherapy

Two devastating blows to LGBTQ+ youth. One day. The Supreme Court just upheld Tennessee’s ban on healthcare for trans youth. And the Trump administration announced it will shut down the national LGBTQ+ youth suicide lifeline — effective in 30 days. A service that Trevor has staffed since its inception. This is not just policy. This is life and livelihood. At The Trevor Project, we are grieving — and we are mobilizing. Because every LGBTQ+ young person deserves support, care, and the freedom to grow up without fear. We will never stop fighting. But we can’t do it alone. 📍Donate now to protect lifesaving services: thetrevorproject.org/donate 📲 Text ‘Trevor’ to 1 (212) 695-8650 to get involved. 🌐 Need help accessing care? The data is here, and LGBTQ+ young people in rural communities are telling us they need support. As part of The Trevor Project’s 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, we found that LGBTQ+ young people living in rural areas were more likely to report symptoms of anxiety or depression, as well as consider or attempt suicide, compared to those living in other parts of the country. Yet, despite these increased mental health risks, LGBTQ+ young people in rural areas were the least likely to be able to access mental health care. For many trans and nonbinary young people in rural communities, the risks go beyond isolation: Nearly 3 in 10 reported being physically threatened or harmed because of their gender identity in the past year. Where you live should never determine whether you can access care and safety. Read the full 2025 U.S. National Survey: trvr.org/NationalSurvey 📊 Share this to help raise awareness and remind LGBTQ+ young people in rural communities that they are not alone 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ If you or someone you know needs support, The Trevor Project is here 24/7/365, free and secure. LGBTQ+ young people are telling us exactly what they need to survive. But are we listening? Our latest research makes this clear: When LGBTQ+ young people are denied care, isolated in their communities, discriminated against, or targeted by harmful policies, the consequences are measurable. 🔶 Transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) young people who couldn’t access desired hormones were nearly twice as likely to attempt suicide. 🔶 LGBTQ+ young people in rural communities face greater mental health risks and less access to care. 🔶 Nearly 1 in 5 Black LGBTQ+ young people attempted suicide in the past year. 🔶 90% of LGBTQ+ young people said anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies, and debates caused stress or anxiety. This is what systemic harm looks like. Yet, our data tells us something just as important: Support saves lives. When LGBTQ+ young people feel supported, their suicide risk goes down. The solution to harm is access and protection. Because when policies get personal, LGBTQ+ young people deserve more than survival. They deserve to live. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Read our full 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People: TheTrevorProject.org/survey-2025 or trvr.org/NationalSurvey 📊

Mother’s Day can be complicated. For some LGBTQ+ young people, it’s a day of love and celebration. For others, it can bring up grief or the ache of not being fully seen. At The Trevor Project, we know this: Support doesn’t have to be perfect to be powerful. Our research found that when LGBTQ+ young people are treated with respect, they have 40% lower odds of attempting suicide. That can mean listening, asking open-ended questions, making space, and following their lead. Support looks like showing up and choosing love, again and again. To every LGBTQ+ young person navigating today, you are not alone. You deserve care and a future where you are fully seen. If you need support, our trained counselors are available 25/7 by calling 1-866-488-7386, texting ‘START’ to 678-678, or by visiting trvr.org/Help. 🧡 📊Read more about how supportive parents and caregivers can make a difference: trvr.org/SupportiveParents. Today, we honor all the moms, caregivers, kin, and chosen family who show up with a love that LGBTQ+ young people deserve. 💐

We are excited to share some good news this Friday! Lawmakers in Colorado just passed a new law that will further protect LGBTQ+ people living in the state against the harms of conversion therapy. This is a direct response to the concerns raised by the U.S. Supreme Court in their decision on the case Chiles v Salazar this past March. This marks an important victory for protecting LGBTQ+ people living in Colorado against these debunked practices – and for survivors seeking justice for the harms they’ve been subjected to through this malpractice. After the decision in Chiles v. Salazar, we said that our fight to end conversion therapy in this country was far from over – and we meant it. We are grateful for the advocates and lawmakers who have championed this legislation, and we look forward to continuing to working to ensure that all LGBTQ+ young people – in Colorado and across the country – feel safe, supported, and seen exactly as they are.

LGBTQ+ young people are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of who they are. They are placed at higher risk because of how they are treated. In a new interview with CBS Los Angeles, Dr. Ronita Nath of The Trevor Project shared findings from our latest U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People, one of the largest studies of its kind. What LGBTQ+ young people told us is urgent and clear: 44% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were unable to access it. For many, the barriers weren’t just affordability or transportation…they were fear and trust. Young people worried whether they would be believed and safe. Our research also shows something powerful: When adults, communities, schools, and institutions become more inclusive, suicide risk goes down. Acceptance saves lives. Support matters. Every LGBTQ+ young person deserves access to safety, care, belonging, and a future where they can thrive exactly as they are. Let’s talk about mental health among LGBTQ+ young people ⬇️ The Trevor Project (@trevorproject ) just shared the findings from their 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People This survey shares the experiences of more than 16,000 LGBTQ+ young people ages 13 to 24 across the United States Some of the key findings include: [*content warning: suicide*] 🌈 90% of respondents said recent anti-LGBTQ+ laws, policies, and debates negatively impacted their well-being 🌈 1 in 10 LGBTQ+ young people attempted suicide in the past year 🌈 LGBTQ+ young people of color attempted suicide at higher rates than their White peers, and nearly a third (32%) experienced racial or ethnic discrimination 🌈 Over half (59%) of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 experienced bullying in the past year, and those who did reported significantly higher rates of attempting suicide in the past year than their peers. 🌈 44% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it To learn more about mental health of LGBTQ+ young people in the United States, visit: 🔗 /survey-2025 🔗 ** Also, it’s important to note that LGBTQ+ young people are not inherently prone to higher suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Rather, they are placed at higher risk because of how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society. **
