A while ago, I was privileged to be in a mentorship session with @timmydavies_
I expected the usual, how to shoot this, how to do that. But his approach was different.
He asked us to slow down and think deeply about what we actually want. About our core.
I remember writing a very long essay on my essence, with the intention of turning it into a video. I never did.
Lately, though, things have become clearer. I’ve discovered what sits at the center of everything I do, what I love, what drives me, and why I create.
This feels like the right time to finally share that. This is my why.

It’s been about two years since I shot this film, which is kind of crazy to think about.
I still remember how it started as just a random conversation in the morning, and somehow by past 11PM that same day, we had finished shooting a whole short film. Incredibly proud of the work I and the team did.
It was my first time trying horror as a genre, and I was honestly just figuring things out as I went, especially with the sound design. I remember stressing over how to actually make people feel scared.
We did a small screening with friends, and people were genuinely scared watching it. I thought they were just playing it up, but seeing other people react the same way later made me realize maybe it actually worked.
Now it has 1,800 people have watched it on YouTube, and it’s screened at festivals, won awards at the, EU / National Film Institute Festival, WAFCON Africa, NIFS Summit.. and reached places I’ve never even been to, which is still a bit surreal and maybe slightly unbelievable.
I’m just really grateful to everyone who was part of it—my friends, @amerifilms_ and my professors at the time.

The creative ecosystem in Nigeria is so large and diverse, but it’s so easy to constrict it when you don’t leave your bubble.
This was my key take away after attending the @lens4good event as a panelist in Kwara. I wasn’t just opportuned to share my experience as a visual storyteller, I picked up a couple of lessons as well.
It’s absolutely amazing to see young people who are genuinely interested in the creative industry get the support they need to thrive.
It was also honestly so special being surrounded by so many creatives, people I’ve admired and looked up to for a long time. Just sharing the same space with them and getting to learn from their minds and experiences meant a lot to me. I truly loved every bit of it.
Attention is earned.
Authority is built.
